The talent raid on the upcoming Strikeforce: “Shamrock vs. Cung Le” fight card continues with Nick Diaz being the latest fighter scratched from the March 29 event at the HP Pavillion in San Jose, Calif., according to MMAWeekly.com.

Drew Fickett — who was slated to challenge Diaz’ training partner, Jake Shields, for the 170-pound EliteXC title — will now fill-in and take on Jae Suk Kim. Shields bowed out of his bout with Fickett earlier this week because of a back injury.

There was no reason given for the Diaz withdrawal at this time.

Diaz and Shields join Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos (visa issues) and Joe Riggs (spinal injury) as high profile scratches from the show that will air at 10 p.m. ET on the Showtime premium cable network.

The showdown between Fickett and Kim will be featured during the televised portion of the broadcast.

More bad news — Diaz is quite a draw. However, two titles will still be up for grabs in the Golden State this weekend.

NIck Diaz is a joke

Fact is, Nick Diaz, is a joke. This guy might be one of the biggest losers in MMA. Before I heard the true reason of him not being able to fight, I suspected it had something to do with weed....and look what happens. The guy will never quit smoking the grass. You would have thought he has learned his lesson by now, but I think Nick just proved he is a lost cause.
While he has had a few exciting fights, he simply is not that good. He lost his way straight out of the UFC, and he would never respect anyone who defeated him. All Nick does is talk shit and make excuses. For once, I would like to see this idiot accept responsibility for his actions. Using ADD as an excuse to smoke weed is a complete insult to everyone.
Here is some advice for you Nick. QUIT SMOKING, YOU IDIOT. It is that simple. But trust me, Nick would never do anything the simple way.
Personally, I hope Nick Diaz keeps smoking weed and never fights again. Obviously, the kid is a thug and would never be able to get a real job. Eventually, this guy will end up on the streets begging for money....and I sure as hell won't give him a penny.
I would say good luck to Nick, but I would be lying. I have given this loser enough chances, and I now hope this is the last time I have to be reminded about the clown.

Well, I think he's an idiot for trying to get around the system. Adult A.D.D.??? People can get a script for Medical Marijuana in California like you can get a sunburn in Florida. Of course the commission should be able to have time to research the validity of his prescription.

Yet anonther in a list of bad choices by Mr. Diaz.

if a fighter can test positive for actual painkillers and other prescription meds as long as they have a doctor's prescription, they should be able to use marijuana medically under the same circumstances.
and furthermore how is marijuana worse than alcohol? no one ever tries to suspend a fighter for drinking, as long as he doesn't show up drunk.

Well supposedly he didn't take to long to turn his papers in the doctor for CSAC did and Gary Shaw is pretty pissed about it.

I think that the CSAC really should let him fight. If he tests positive punish him but otherwise he's does have a prescription. If you want to check whether it's valid have at it but don't stop him from earning living in the meantime.

I hate to say it, but if you are going to publicly talk trash about the commission(s) you had better make damn sure that you have all of your ducks in a row. You and I both know that they are going to be gunning for him the rest of his career. He needs to smarten up and make sure every T is crossed and every I is dotted, or they will keep him out of a lot more fights then just this one.

“He’s got a medical marijuana card…. Nick is a naturalist by heart. He thinks Ritalin is an amphetamine. He thinks that’s really bad for you. People with [Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD0] are kind of hyper, so he has trouble sleeping. He got the medical marijuana card and he takes his pot to go to sleep and be more focused. It’s completely legal in California. Voters voted it in. The commission is actually supposed to obey that, so this will probably open up a legal case. If it was something small, OK, f—- it, whatever. But if they’re not even going to allow him to test clean, that doesn’t make sense. That’s overstepping their boundaries.”

Diaz's trainer, Cesar Gracie, on the Diaz scratch

Excellent post! I know some of you guys dont like Nick. But come on, if he has a prescription and its legal, and he wasnt even able to take a urinalysis to prove he is clean, then thats bullshit.

Here is a quote from Ceaser Gracie
Gracie denied Garcia’s claim that Diaz did not turn in his medicals on time.

“That’s absolutely not true,” said Gracie about the timing of the medicals being received. “Because if he didn’t turn his medicals in, how did (Garcia) know Nick has a cannabis club card? He found out when the medicals were turned in. Nick doesn’t turn in medicals. He goes and gets them done and the lab was turning them in for him.

“There are fighters on this card that did not get their medicals in until today. They got them done last night and turned them in today, and they are fighting.
"
I hope Gary Shaw steps up and backs his fighter. Nick should just sign with Dream or something. I guess he has just pissed too many people off here in the states that are in positions of authority. It seems like he is always going to have a hard time here.

EDIT* And back his fighter he did. Thanks again Manx.

I agree but one thing about the CSAC is that the seem to have a lot of people talking crap about them. I don't know why they seem to have such different criteria for fighters than the NSAC, the NJSAC and all the other governing bodies but they do.

There was that lawsuit not to long ago that accused them of requiring bribes to pass somne fighters.

Also Chris I have a problem with the CSAC not allowing him to fight because of a Mary J prescripition when it is legal to have a prescription for Medical Mary in the state of Cali since they are the governing body of Cali.

While California says it's legal, the Federal Government says it isn't. There's a fine line there.

I'm not taking the side of the commission at all. I would much rather see Diaz fight then not. All I'm saying is, if you are going to speak out against then, make sure your sh!t's right.

I defiantly agree I don't feel bad for Diaz at all. I just am starting to wonder whats going on in the CSAC that makes it so hard to fight in Cali.

And While you are right about the federal government saying it's illegal the CSAC is supposed to represent Cali and it's voters not the Federal Government and if Cali says it's legal that the CSAC should look at a prescription of Medical Marijuana the same way it loooks at a prescription for a very strong allergy medicine.

Honestly my biggest problem is not that they won't let him fight but just the fact the CSAC won't let almost anyone fight. They seem to ban fighters from fighting on almost every card and these are guys who fight in Nevada all the time.

Regardless of the reason for this scratch it has been the final straw that wil prevent me from ordering showtime just for this fight. As badly as I want to see Le dominate Shamrock with the SHields scratch and now ths, I just have no real interest in the card.

I must say I was unimpressed with DIaz his last fight. He had nothing behind his punches, seems tired and although a thin guy, looked soft. It was no where near the same guy I saw battle Karo. Now to hear his love for grass, it makes sense. It is hard enought o be an elite athlete but to smoke and do it make sit all the harder not to mention it makes you lazy, none of which bodes well for training to your highest potential. I am not sure how detrminetal ADD is to MMA, its not like he is an accountant! Anyways, he has fallen since his heyday in UFC and this is a new low for him professionally. I hope he can rebound and rededicate himself but it is not looking good. Little bro Nate is the real deal though!

Why can't the commissions realize that pot isn't going to help a fighter at all unless the purse prize is the biggest Hersey chocolate bar ever made?

Gary Shaw Addresses CSAC's Decision

Showing little restraint, Shaw contradicted CSAC executive director Armando Garcia’s assertion that Diaz’s medicals were late. According to Shaw, Diaz was the first fighter on the card to have his medicals submitted. Shaw said that Diaz was apparently cleared either two or two and a half weeks ago.

In taking Diaz off the card, Shaw said that Garcia had “overstepped” his bounds. He stated that Diaz was never tested for drugs and never tested positive. Shaw added that Garcia is not currently taking his calls.

Diaz himself made an appearance and addressed the fighters and media. He issued a heartfelt apology for not being able to appear as scheduled. He clarified his position by indicating that he was only being honest with the commission, and that he has legal permission to use the marijuana to treat Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder conditions. Diaz informed the audience that it was his intent to test clean.

Shaw was also asked about legal action against the commission and said he will have his attorneys look into it. He did state that he believes that Diaz has a civil case. Shaw also added that Diaz will fight on June 14th in Hawaii.

I guess it proves to be the correct decision for the UFC and Diaz to part ways now. Diaz no doubt has issues and he needs to get it toghether b4 his career will be completely finished. You only get so many chances messing up in the bigtime and then you very quickly become a nobody. For Nicks sake i hope he gets it toghether but i dont like the chances.

#27 ·
...but he didn't "mess up". his medical marijuana prescription is fully legal. the CSAC themselves even admitted here that medical marijuana prescriptions are allowed, they just claim he didn't turn his medical forms in in time- and that is a claim being disputed by Gary Shaw, Cesar Gracie, and Diaz himself. It looks to me like the CSAC (specifically Garcia) just wanted to punk Diaz.

regardless of the legal issues in this case, Diaz is a mere shadow of his former self in his heydey with UFC and I would bank that it is he mary jane. It makes people unmotivated and kills their cardio. It is taking a toll on his performance and if he is consciously making that decision knowing the impact it has fine. He may have ADD but how does thatt really hurt you in MMA? As I said in an earlier post, he is not an accountant. Love to see him back to form but not holding my breath.

You are wrong. Not only is a medical marijuana prescription perfectly valid under CSAC regulations, federal law is irrelevant to the CSAC's banned substances list and has no bearing on it's contents. See my posts on page 3 for further details.

it doesnt matter. he wasnt in possesion and he claims he would have passed a drug test. therefore, the CSAC had no valid basis for banning him.

and how do you not like nick diaz? he's fun to watch and his trash talking is almost epic! if only he were a little smarter... still fun to watch and funny to listen to. you can't REALLY take him seriously you know (except maybe in the cage and then only half the time).
