Man, I loved the LOTR books. I have read them all at several times since I was a kid.

Anyone ever read Battlefield Earth by L Ron Hubbard? Its one of my favorite books and I was thinking of picking it up again soon.

No, I've never read it. I stayed away from it because of the horrible movie. That, and the fact that scientology is batshit crazy

Maybe I'll read it someday when I have the time.

YEs the movie was absolutely TERRIBLE and I was enraged when I couldn't make it through the first 15 minutes since I adore the book so much. The book is really good sci-fi, and don't worry...no scientology in there!!!

You guys you guys!!!

I just posted in the what are you doing right now? thread that I found my copy of Coldheart Canyon by Clive Barker under my bed yesterday. I am SOOO excited.

This is a great book by a man so brilliant, I was infatuated with him as he flew under my sensitive gaydar.

It has everything you would expect from Clive: parallel worlds, deeply buried secrets from hundreds or thousands or millions of years ago, creatures that mess with your head just reading their description, and of course, lots and lots of secks.

I love you Clive!!!

Seriousla, read this book. I am about 100 pages in already. I read fast; it's my compensation for being bad at math and technotarded.

This is bar none one of the best horror books I've ever read. I would have a day like MC did awhile ago if it were ever made into a movie.

He was an amazing writer and visionary.

The prequel/continuing stories written by his son and Kevin J. Anderson started out decent though not as good and have since taken a BIG dip in quality in the past two.
Word. The original Dune books are as addictive as the spice. Really excellent world building and thoughts involved in the whole series. If you are a fan of science fiction and haven't read Frank Herbert's original Dune, gtf on that. As for the prequels, they are fluff garbage written by his son and some other clown (who writes ficiton in 'teams' anyway?), only relatable to the original in name.

Right now reading a book called "Antipodes of the Mind: Charting The Phenomenology of the Ayahuasca Experience" by Benny Shanon

Its a cognitive psychological study of the effects of the south american shamanistic concoction ayahuasca, chemically known as DMT. Really its a fascinating drug that induces very vivid and sometimes very coherent or instructional visions and states of minds in its users. There are usually consistent contents or themes reported across different users of very different cultural backgrounds. Visions occur eyes open or eyes closed, and are not true 'hallucinations' in the sense that the user almost never loses a sense of what 'true reality' is, despite the fact that the visions are self-consistent, persistent and sometimes extremely immersive.

Its good to get a scholarly analysis of these powerful drugs, instead of artsy self-narratives that are interesting but whose perspective aren't intentfully objective.

What Are You Reading

We cant find the old thread so we shall make a new one
post what you are reading now

I am now in the process of rereading Belgarath the Sorcerer David Eddings

Quote:
it is a book about one of the main characters in David Eddings series called The Belgariad

if you are a fantasy genre reading I highly recommend picking up the books in this series.

The series starts out with the Belgariad series which is five books then moves to the Mallorean Series which is 5 books, then there are 3 branch off books called Belgarath the Sorcerer, Polgara the Sorceress And the Rivan Codex.

This series is so good I reread it once a year and some of the books twice a year
