Nice, never made the connection before now.

Currently reading a few books, The Hiram Key on the Templars and freemasons, Zen and the Brain which is an interesting look at the brain functions and how the brain relates and Pirate Latitudes. I also need to read a book on American History up to the Civil War. I was thinking a book on Gettysburg but I don't know, any suggestions.

If so I highly recommend the rest of the books in this series. They are all FANTASTIC!
Yes this is the first time reading it. I actually wasn't aware that it was a series. Thanks for telling me, I will probably read the others some time as well.

From his Wiki:

Quote:
Novels

The Asian Saga consisting of six novels:

* King Rat (1962): Set in a Japanese POW camp, 1945
* Tai-Pan (1966): Set in Hong Kong, 1841
* Shōgun (1975): Set in feudal Japan, 1600
* Noble House (1981): Set in Hong Kong, 1963
* Whirlwind (1986): Set in Iran, 1979
* Gai-Jin (1993): Set in Japan, 1862
They are all set in different times, but follow the same family. I enjoyed them all, but the ones from the earlier times are my favorites.

Eddings is great. Some of my favorite fantasy.

Right now I'm readin Lucifer's Hammer. It is about the discovery of a comet, the comet striking the earth, and the aftermath. Interesting so far, but the comet hasn't hit yet so I hope it speeds up.

I was reading the Thomas Covenant series, but just couldn't get into it. Interesting ideas, despicable main character, way too long and drawn out events.

I actually just watched a great Documentary called "Because the Bible Tells Me So" that goes in depth into how right wing conservatives have used select passages from the Bible to push their ideology on others and discriminate towards minorities(homosexuals predominantly these days). It basically boils down to outright ignorance and an almost blasphemous stance on what the scriptures actually say. The majority of these "Christians" of modern day are anything but Christ-like in their treatment of those they pass judgement upon. Its sad really...

Re-reading 'the song of ice and fire' series. Only a few chapters into 'A Game of Thrones'. Really really amazing books, I reccomend them to anyone. The series is coming out in america later this year also.

Currently reading "the wondrous life of oscar wao," which was the Pulitzer winner of 2008. Recently finished "a fighters heart," by sam sheridan, which I would be pretty sure that just about anyone on this forum would enjoy. It follows a man through the world of fighting, where he trains with Militech, learns kickboxing in thailand, bjj with the Noguerias.... all true, and pretty badass.

Other than the latter, I'd say the best reads I've had in the last year would probably be "the road" by Cormac McCarthy and "life of pi" by Yann Martel.

Awesome books! They are probably my favorite fantasy books, and I've read a lot. I can't wait for the next book to come out, though I haven't read any updates in a while.

Probably the only books I've read in which none of the characters are safe. Your favorite character could simply get massacred at a wedding all of the sudden
