Re-bump.

After finishing the fourth of Steven Erikson's The Malazan Book of the Fallen I can't suggest reading this series more. A brand new kickass character was introduced and this series just keeps getting better and better. If you like realistic fantasy I can only tell you that you need to check this series out- one of the best I've ever read. I've read a couple a books in between but not worth bringing up. I'm gonna take a short break and read "The Last Man Standing" by Jeff Shaara based on WWI before starting the 5th book. I've read "The Killer Angels" by his father and all his US Civil War and American Revolutionary War books but not his WWII books so I thought I get back his books with this one.

Currently reading"the Turner Diaries" It is supposedly the book blamed for the Oklahoma City bombing. It is a really warped and disturbing racist book. I can see how small minded people could take it as the prophesy of things to come. It is really disturbing to read.

I actually just got into books on tape ...yeah I know its the idiots mans reading but i usually read right before I fall asleep, this in itself brought up a problem for when I start a book i usually just want to keep reading and finish it (this is even for books i have read 30+ times like my david eddings series)

So I started listening to books on tape and i find that I listen to a chapter or 2 then drift asleep its fricken awesome.

also there is a huge differences in the narrators/storytellers some change their voices for each charector while others just use the same voice all through out, both ways i like if they do it right but i have found some that you can tell they are just reading for the paycheck and really cant even stand the book they are reading.

sorry for the ramblings I just found it interesting that i got into audio books for i thought i never would (actually hated it for the first half of the first audio book but then i really got into them)

I love audio books for long road trips. They are fantastic. We used to drive to Florida from here which is about 14 hours depending on where we were going. When we got to the hotel we would sometimes have to sit in the car and finish what we were listening to.

I just bought Stephen King's Just After Sunset and finished it in about 4 hours (about 500 pages, IIRC). I've loved his short stories since I was in middle school.

Plus one of the stories, Ackerman's Field, is a super awesome Lovecraft hommage.

His short stories are the only things he's ever written worth a damn. His novels got entirely too predictable and... generic? I can't think of the word I'm trying to but generic fits the bill as well. Last book I read of his was Black House... ugh, never again. I need to read a good cerebral thriller/horror book though, suggestions?

Black House was depressing as shit, and I love Peter Straub.

Cerebral thriller/horror? Check out Mr. Straub. He hasn't been very prolific lately IIRC, but his works from the 80s and 90s are definitely worth looking into.

Or Ramsey Campbell, but you better have a strong stomach.

Have you read "Guts?"

If not read it, it's a short story by Chuck Palahniuk, you should enjoy it

The Gunslinger series was one of the best series ever written..and it is interwoven into a lot of his stories which I think is really cool. King is one of my favorite offers even though its not cool to like him anymore I think...
