Nintendo Wii

I just played the wii for about six hours at my in laws house and I thought It was awesome. This has to be the future of gaming as we know it. Why would anyone drop 600 bucks on PS3 when all you get is the same stuff in a shinier package? The Wii has motion sensitive games that react to your movements. The boxing game was what got me hooked! It was a lot of fun to coach other kids on how to keep there hands up, and work there jab! Any way I know there is a lot of people who are passionate about their ps3 and xbox 360 and I was just wondering why???

Honestly, I still want to play Silent Hill, MSG, Resident Evil etc...

I love my Zelda, and nothing tops Super Metroid imo, but there's only so much hand waving that I can handle. The Wii's cheaper price makes it easier to own two consoles.

Nintendo is reeling in those non gamers that they were after, so there are alot of people in my situation who own a Wii but need to decide between a 360 & a PS3.
I should be getting my 360 soon :D

Wii games are fun though. The Wario game is going to be alot o fun with friends. Then you got your Mario and Metroid.
It's just that most of the time I'd like to kick back with a normal controller with a high def game on a high def tv and lay the smackdown on some zombies.

right now i dont see the wii having any longetivity in the game world. Its cool right now but how long can it last and how much can they really do with this new way of using the system.

For a long, long time. Just take a look at the Bemini series that Konami Released: Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Freaks, Drum Mania, Beat Mania, etc. Hell, the third best selling video game for the 2006 Christmas season is the bundled version of Guitar Hero 2, and it clocks in at $79.99! Why are these games popular amongst hardcore and casual gamers alike? They are popular because the gameplay experience is much different than that you would get from a standard controller.

Ever since the birth of the Video Game industry in 1972, the general video game experience has not changed. In its broadest and simplest state, the video game experience has always been a set of response due to tactile input with our fingers or thumbs. The only thing that has really changed over time is that the Video and Audio quality has evolved, and the shapes of the controllers have differed from platform to platform.

And that is where the Wii differs. You have the ability to play "conventionally" but utilizing the motion sensing abilities of the controller opens up a huge amount of possibilities. I wouldn't be as optimistic of its future if it didn't have the amount of developer and publisher support that it has. However, unlike the N64 or Gamecube, there is a huge amount of 3rd party support for the system. The reason being is that the games that are made exclusively for the Wii will not be available anywhere else, so it is always (if the games are good) gauranteed a spot on the market.

Now am I going to prematurely proclaim the Wii the winner of the new console race? No. I'm optimistic, but I'm also a realist. It's not going to go away, but it is not going to be able to muscle or steal the top spot in the industry. But is it going to disappear in 9 months? No.

Hell, I remember when folks were preaching that the XBox was going to bankrupt Microsoft and that it was going to disappear in before its second Christmas.

I haven't played the WII yet,but I was thinking the same thing about how the controller/playing would get old after the "new" wears off.
