Simple PS2 Question?

My San Andreas game has a few scratches on it does anyone know if the scratches will hurt the PS2 at all?

Games don't hurt systems, it's the systems that hurt the games. You have some scratches on it now but keep playing and you'll have way more scratches. The game won't mess up the system. Not as far as I've heard.

If it's your new PS2 that you're talking about, your system should be fine. However, your games may not be in the best shape. If you here a "clicking" noise coming from your system and you know your discs are worn out/scratched/dirty or otherwise, it's the laser lense trying to find a place to actually read the game.

May be time to replace the disc, or (if you have faith in them) time to get a Disc/Game doctor. It'll buff out the first layer of the disc, and after you polish it, it may be able to help bring your games back to life.

IowaMFSFan has a little shameless behaviour in the past
I'd personally be a bit concerned if the game had a huge scratch or something. Its always possible to damage the laser lens or at least I think thats a possiblity.

Disc caddies? Only if the drive accepts disc that way. I also know there is a few repair "solutions" that involve filling the scratch with liquid resin (kinda like clear nail polish), but that needs to be buffed out also when you finish. So, Disc Doctor away... If not, get a new(er) copy of the game.

If it's just a simple scratch (straight line) then I wouldn't worry about the lense. However, if the scratch looks like a full cocentric circle/orbit along the bottom of the disc, that means the lens is making contact with the disc and is most likely out of alignment. That usually means you're looking at shelling out money for a new system. That's the only time scratches are an indication of the system going out.
