Whale Wars

Quote:
This stunning and dangerous limited series spotlights both the controversial Japanese whaling trade and the tactics that the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and its staff and volunteers use to cripple it. Aboard the Motor Yacht "Steve Irwin" the group seeks out the Japanese whaling fleet and then uses it's Delta Zodiac, helicopter, and other innovative techniques to enforce the law, including close-quarters ship-to-ship contact, to disable and/or sink the Japanese whaling ships in the fight to enforce international laws on the high seas where law enforcement is minimal or non-existent. The successful confrontations disrupt whale carcass processing and disperse the fleet of whaling vessels.

I have been a advid watcher of this show since it started and although some episodes can be kinda boring the show as a whole is great. Some of the things these people do are crazy but all for a good cause.

also Bob Barker (the guy from prices right) is the shit and I did not know he was this big into animal rights and conservation. The man bought them a huge ship a bit ago and now bought them a helicopter. i thought his whole keep your pets spayed or neutered slogan was just something prices right made him do but boy was i wrong

I really enjoy this show. I love what they are doing, and admire the dedication. However, they can be SO bloody inept at times it really shows how untrained they are.

The latest season, the whalers give up before the season is over. For that, I applaud them. Whaling is disgusting.

At times watching the show, when it's rough seas and they're shooting the cabin, I genuinely feel ill. I get sea sick and even watching the horizon come and go on the tv makes me want to die haha. I can't imagine what it's like for new comers for the first week or so.

The Japanese wasted so much money this last trip down. Congrats to the guys on sea shepard, no reason for people to be whaling. I saw the aftershow and they're going after Denmark next where they do that big whale slaughter in those bays.

Unfortunately the Steve Irwin is being held in Scotland. Not sure if they've been able to retrieve the vessel yet.

They fight whaling all over the world. From Norway's Arctic whaling to Japan's antartic whaling. They are active the entire year, not just for the Antarctic whaling season. It just so happens the Anarctic whaling season is between December and February, and that is what Whale Wars is centered on. For the time period the Japanese are whaling, they kill far more whales in that time than any other country do in a year.

And which country do you mean? You do realise Sea Shephard has Canadian, British, American, New Zealand, Australian, Japanese and other nationalities as members right?

American whaling is from small Alaskan indigenous people, and they take around 50 Whales per year. Where as Japan's quota is over 1000 in the space of a few months. Pretty sure it's obvious why they are tackling Japanese whaling during the December-Feb Months. The numbers are obliterating the oceans. Canadian Whaling is in small groups by Inuit tribes as far as I am aware.

Also, commercial whaling is against International Law. Near all of the Whaling is taking place in International waters also, so they aren't really tackling whaling IN a specific country, more stopping a country from breaking maritime law. The Japanese whalers hide behind a lie, saying they're killing for research. Then go on to sell the meat and make millions. It's disgusting.

You tried to attack the Japanese Society with this whaling comment Kry, in the "What are you.." thread and you failed hard. Cause this is not a Japanese thing, not at all.. it happens almost everywhere just like you pointed out.

Also just for the record, it has nothing to do with a society lol

You asked for an example, I gave you one. I wasn't attacking them, don't be a drama queen.

The fact that the Japanese government openly promote whaling, sell whale meat and even go so far as to implement it into young society by serving it as a school meal to young kids means it has a lot to do with society. The fact you cannot see that doesn't surprise me at all.

It's been a part of their society for hundreds/thousands of years.

If it makes you happier then please identify a culture on whaling and just ignore that this is happening almost everywhere. What do you think they are doing with the meat over here throw it away lol wake up man..
