Yah Jimmy Smits is usually a suit on the opposite side of the law that is until Dexter apparently. Never watched the whole seasons, but hear he won an emmy.
Clay is on his way out and is a shell of his former self. His former right hand Tigs is completely disoriented atm. Gemma is going buck wild like a teenaged groupie...but that's what makes her such a badass mama! She plays by her own rules.
Wonder what happens to Otto. Welcome the new Nomads with real life former HA President Chuck Zito.

Oh man...anyone else see tonights episode; Laying Pipe. That saddened and pissed me off.
It's so fitting how Jax finally told Opie the truth. Then he offers himself for sacrifice and leaves SAMCRO to see his wife and father on his own terms. This is why this show is so compelling. Breaking Bad is on its' own, but you don't feel bad when people get offed not in the way that this show does it.

****. ****. ****************.
Why does every tv show ever kill off my favorite characters? That sissy bitch Jax gets to live another day and the guys who actually have the balls to do stuff get killed off one by one.

That was a visceral scene. One I will not be forgetting anytime soon along with the first episode of the season.
Any fans old and new you gotta watch it and discuss. It's been a long time since an episode or scene that really provoked this type of emotions.
Everybody knows Tigs should have been in the box, but that would have been too predictable. Looked like Jax was going, but Opie handled his business and even gave us a glimpse of hope when he said "I got this." The brave are always the first to die.

Man that pissed me of, it was a brutal scene and off goes the guy who in a lot of ways was one of the core characters. I think long run for the show that was a huge mistake, how much of the emotion around the show revolded around Opie for the past 4 seasons from trying to make it without the club and the conflict with Dona in season 1 to siding with Clay, discovering what happened to Donna which left an interesting element with Tig, Jacks, Clay all the way to Piney's death and his shooting of Clay. In a lot of ways he was the emotional center point of the show even more so than Jax.
I get the feeling the long term plan for the show at this point isn't about Jax ousting Clay and saving the club, I think its about Jax becoming Clay, becoming that emotionally warped.

If you're like me, still fuming and pissed over last nights episode then read Kurt Sutter's thoughts as he takes you through his point of view. Actually quells the feeling a bit. Suppose it had to be done...
"Sons of Anarchy" fans are still reeling from the death of a key character in Tuesday's (Sept. 25) episode, "Laying Pipe." Series creator Kurt Sutter talked with reporters Wednesday morning about why he chose to kill off the character and how it will affect Jax (Charlie Hunnam) going forward.
(Spoilers for "Laying Pipe" below.)
Sutter says the events leading to Opie's (Ryan Hurst) death -- at the direct hands of other prison inmates, but at the behest of Damon Pope (Harold Perrineau) -- stretch back as far as the end of Season 3, "and it all sort of came together with the death of Piney [William Lucking] last year. We got to the end of that season and I felt there was this circular dynamic happening with Jax and Opie that I felt was very difficult to get out of. ...
"Knowing where I want to take my hero and the road I want him to travel, Jax I felt needed that emotional upheaval, that one event that happens in a man's life that can change the course of his destiny. I think the death of his best friend was that event."
Sutter also says he put Opie dying early in the season so viewers will be able to see what it does to Jax.
"This is the season where Jax ... really figures out what kind of man he's going to become, and we see the decisions he makes and what kind of leader he's going to be," Sutter says. "Laying these circumstances out early in the season really allows that death to color Jax and all the choices he makes. ... Jax will be greatly influenced by the death of Opie, and that loss and emptiness will color him throughout the rest of the season."
Pope offers Jax a deal to get out of jail, provided he sacrifices someone else from SAMCRO as payback for Tig's (Kim Coates) killing of a cop on Pope's payroll and another man in the Season 5 premiere. Jax is on the verge of making that choice -- or offering himself up -- when Opie steps in.
Sutter says he wanted Opie to die "as a warrior," but it also gave him a way to exit a life he had no love for anymore.
"To me, there is a sense of him having this tremendous loss," Sutter says. "And yes, I do believe some of it was a sense of, 'Here's an opportunity for me to go out doing the right thing and perhaps this is how I can best be of service to my club.'"
PS: I also want to add that I don't think I've ever been traumatized from watching TV shows or films before. This was pretty damn close for some reason. It's the way Opie looked at Jax one last time before the death blow that was chilling man. That was heavy. Very tough to digest seeing your best friend go out like that. Might be right Toxic. Jax may turn into a cold, callous and distant leader.
Just found this thread. We have had 2 powerful episodes this season. The 1st episode and the latest one. A couple powerful scenes that will no doubt set a tone for this season. As much as I hate the result of the last episode, Sutter has really started off this season with a bang so far.

I care a lot about Bobby and Chibs actually. Chibs is one of my favourite characters.
On the other hand though...
Opie was my favourite and I am gutted about his death. He went out like a warrior though and I can see why it was done. I think we'll see a totally new Jax soon, and seeing Opie die will help him get off the path to becoming Clay.
We are in season 5 out of a total of seven seasons. Shit needs to get serious. I prefer shows when I think '****...no one is safe' and that's exactly what Sutter achieved. I love Opie, but that was an extremely brave move by Sutter, and I think it worked
Also, anyone remember Halfsac? The prospect from the first few seasons? The actor beat his landlady to death then jumped off a building killing himself recently. Some crazy shit.
