Which console?

Now I'm a member the employment club I can once again look down my nose at tramps. I can also afford a new games console. I owned a PS2 years back. Then switched to 360 when it came out and I've been with X-Box ever since. Well, up until a year ago when I lost everything. Now I want to buy a new console and I want to know your opinions. I prefer the Playstaion control as it doesn't lose its grip and get sweaty during those marathon sessions. But I prefer the X-box in regards to the online stuff.

Its been a while since I've owned a console so I'm a bit behind on shit. Whats next for X-box and Playstaion? Do any have awesome exclusive games that may warrant buying one over the other?

Tell me which one you think is best and I'll take your opinions into account before making my purchase. Thanks if you can help dudes!

My preference is the PS3. I prefer the controller, the free online system which tbh isn't that far behind Xbox Live. Playstation+ is cheaper than Live, and offers you access to BETAs, free games, avatars, themes etc etc.

As a media center it's incredible, Blu Ray really is just fantastic. It destroyed 'HD DVD' within months for a reason. BBC iPlayer on PS3 now offers HD as well. 4OD and ITV player are also there, with Love Film linking with your subscription so if you're subscribed to them already you should be able to stream movies for free. It also means games that are 2-3 disks on the Xbox are on one lovely Blu Ray disk for the PS3.

List of omfg Playstation Exclusives...

Final Fantasy Versus XIII (To be released but if you're a FF fan then it's a no brainer really)
Uncharted series (really...REALLY amazing games, with the 3rd being released next month)
Resistance series (for a launch game, Fall of Man was ahead of it's time. Online is dead now but campaign is pretty fun, the sequel was a huge let down to most with online being retarded. The 3rd has just been released and while it isn't as good as the original, the online is fun and the campaign is pretty amazing for a FPS campaign)
God of War series (1+2 HD remixes) - Probably the best hack and slash action games ever. They are incredible.
Little Big Planet
Killzone
Heavy Rain
Metal Gear Solid 4 (oooomg what a game, if you're a fan of the series and have yet to play, this is enough reason to get a PS3 imo)

There are a few others but I can't remember them all right now.

I got a 360 I love it but to be honest I bought my first 360 when PS3's were like $300 more than a 360. When I got RROD and had to buy a new 360 I wanted to just buy a PS3 instead but I couldn't justify the cost of having to buy new games. I am not a hardcore gamer though.

Thanks for your replies dudes. I'm not a hardcore gamer either Toxic. I usually have 6 or 7 games I play alot. Rotating them. My problem with PS3 is loading times. There seems to be alot of loading before you get to play your new game. Also, that wand thing. The 360 has obviously better contollerless technology. Surely the internet is better on 360 too? What with it being Microsoft and all.

As far as those exclusives go Kry, MGS4 has got me a little turned on. Easily my favourite game of the PS2. The new Resistance game looks pretty ridiculous aswell. Killzone is awesome. I dont know too much about the Uncharted series. Ill have a look. As far as FF go, I've never been a fan. Not enough action and too many cut scenes. Think FF8 is the last one I played. I also understand Blu-Ray is the way forward. Hmmm. I was dead set on 360 but now I'm not so sure.

I'll be honest with you, I wouldn't purchase a new console now.

The system cycle is starting to end (new Nintendo console out next year and both new Xbox and Play-station will be revealed next year). If you buy a new PS3/Xbox now, then next year you very well might be replacing (but there's also a good chance they won't officially come out until 2013, but they will definitely be revealed in 2012).

If I had no console, I'd be buying myself a gaming PC. PC plays 90% of games that come out on console, as well as their own exclusives. They produce much better graphics (higher res texture/draw distance/resolution/faster load times), the controls are also more free flowing than a controller. Keep in mind, current consoles are using hardware from 5 years ago. Any mid-level PC looks better than console games. It's more expensive, but is wroth it if you have the money.

With all that said, if you don't want to spend the money ($800-1000) and just want a console to sit on the couch and play once in a while, I suggest the PS3.

PS3 has a lot of great exclusives (look at Kry's list) where as the 360 Basically just has Halo and Gears at this point, as Mass Effect is now a PS3 game as well. PS3 is also a blu-ray player, so that's pretty cool. Also, the online is free. You don't have to pay to play games online with friends/anyone else.

The 360 is pretty cool as well, but it doesn't really do anything the PS3 can't do, and the PS3 can do somethings that the 360 can't, and has better/more exclusive game titles.

The system cycle is something I've thought about. I'd definitley get PC/Laptop if I had an extra few hundred quid. Its on the cards for sure. And will happen within a month or so. I may start a thread at the time for recomendations and such. If its not obvious, I don't have a clue about technology. Up until 5 years ago I was clued the feck up. Not so anymore.

In the mean time I'll be needing a games console. Thing is they're stupidly cheap 2nd hand. Can pick up a 2nd hand PS3/360 for less than 100 pound. Especially 360. I understand that 360 seems to have less and less creditable titles that are exclusive to their brand. Assasins Creed was the last good one. Love that game. I prefer the PS3 controller for sure. I really don't know now.

Let me put it this way - Console wise, I play my PS3 much more than my 360, and not because if prefer the PS3 more, but because there are no titles for it.

This year alone, PS3 exclusive titles are:

InFamous 2
Killzone 3
Resistance 3
LittlebigPlanet 2
Ico and Shadow of the Collossus collection
God of War Origins
SOCOM 4
Motorstorm: Apocalypse

Games that are still coming out for PS3 only this year:

Uncharted 3
Twisted Metal

-------------

Games that have been released for 360 only this year:

Halo: Reach
Gears of War 3 (comes out in like 6 days)

Games that are still coming out for Xbox this year:

Forza 4.

-------------

See what I'm talking about? Combine that with a blu-ray player and free online gaming, the choice should be obvious. :)

I have owned both consoles so my opinion will hopefully be unbaiased. I currently own the new slim 250 GB Xbox 360 console.

If you preper offline gaming, I would say the PS3. It has a BluRay player and the dashboard on the PS3 is nice and it's a good overall entertainment system.

If you prefer online gaming I would take the 360 any day. You do have to pay for the service but I personally feel the online experience is much better on xbox. Especially people who have friends to play with, there's less lag, less loading and more of a seamless approach to gaming.

One reason I REFUSE to switch back to PS3 is the party chats. Like I said if you play online and are buying it for that experience then xbox is your colsole of choice. Let's say I'm playing Dead Island and your playing Cod and Kry is playing Barbie and Killstarz is playing FIFA. we can still all party chat and talk to eachother.

That's a huge must for me and I often found myself bored on PS3 because the only time I could talk to my friends is when were IN te same lobby of a game.

It is all about the games you like. Games like Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto and stuff are for both consoles. Final Fantasy has been on the xbox. The real thing xbox has is Halo and Gears of War which are outstanding games.

Playstation has a lot of good games as well so it really comes down to which you like more.

I have heard playstation's online is free whereas xbox live is not. I personally have an xbox but that is because I liked the games better. The 2 series I really played for the PS were Resident Evil and Final Fantasy, both of which have made an appearance on the xbox now.

Don't let MGS4 swing your vote in that case, the game is nearly half cut scene. Stunning, amazing, story driven and exciting, but if you don't like watching long cut scenes often I wouldn't bother.

I never knew Xbox could have cross game party chat. That is amazing and something Sony NEED to do asap about that. PS3 you have to rely on the games chat system really, I never use the PS3s chat system due to it being lobby only (PS3 lobby, not game lobby)

Only XIII though, and XIII-2. Versus won't be on the 360. The X remake is probably going to be PS3 only as well, as it was a PS exclusive 10 years ago.
