I'd finished Feast for Crows by May 2009 (just checked Amazon orders ) so had to wait a while for Dance with Dragons, now Winds of Winter is expected to take at least 4 years. SO MUCH SUCK.

Season 2 - April 1st --->

"I will hurt you for this. The day will come, and your joy will turn to ashes, and you will know the debt is paid." - Tyrion Lannister

Marcus Aurelius: Tell me again, Maximus, why are we here?
Maximus: For the glory of the Empire, sire.

Baked, not fried... the healthy choice.

The tv series does the books proud, every character (except maybe Cersei for me) has the perfect actor. Especially Arya and Tyrion.
Robert Baratheon was the best for me. He portrayed the once heroic war hero, now fat, lazy king to absolute perfection. Several of the best dialog scenes involved Robert, the one with Jamie and Ser Barristan talking about their first kills in particular.

I do agree that they really hit it out of the park with the actors, the child actors were incredible, every single one of them. Joffrey was a sly little bastard, Arya extremely loveable, Bran was good and Sansa showed a lot of promise towards the end of season 1.

Every single Lannister worked for me, Tywin, Jamie and obviously Tyrion in particular. Robb was great, Ned... hell they are all fantastic. Amazing casting.

The only one I absolutely hated was Ser Loras Tyrell, The Knight of Flowers. Without spoiling to much I'll just say they are gonna have a lot of work to do to bring some credibility back to his character.

If the seasons follow the books I don't think there will be a fourth. I was told they are filming the third now or I would guess it wouldn't make it past two. Hopefully I am wrong.

What do you mean it won't be a fourth? They are definitely following the books, GRRM has said on several occasions that's important to him and that's how it will be done. The way the third book ends, there is no way they can do a line there and say that's it, the fans would riot. The show has a strong cult following and runs on a station that cares about making good TV, and doesn't like cutting shows prematurely. HBO stopped producing Rome after season 2, which they later admitted it was a big error.

As long as the wieving figures stay on a acceptable level GoT will continue to run. More interesting is what they will do with the third series, which is based on a massive book, with A LOT of shit going on. Hopefully they will do a 16 episode season or something, that would be great.

I would love to see 16 episodes per season for 10 years but think the expense that some of the battles and special effects will cost will hurt it(if they follow the book). People seeing their favorite character voted off will lose them as fans as well.

I just finished the third book and have too much time invested not to quit reading them or I would. Too many stupid decisions and twists makes me think no main characters will be left at the end.

I'm afraid we'll be watching Ed Starks great grandson take the heir and swiftly drink himself to death or succumb to gonnorhea the way this story is going

I get what you are saying. GRRM did go a little crazy in books 2 and 3, killing off main characters left right and centre. (I did love the RW though, left me with my mouth hanging wide open.) Without spoiling you, I will say this, the fourth book is by far the worst of the series, and although still a good book, suffers greatly from the loss of many interesting characters from the last three books. Many ASOFAI fans feel like GRRM took a breather with the fourth, and to a degree, the fifth book, and tried out some new storytelling methods and angles. Some of them worked, and some did not, which was a shame when everything he did seemed to work when writing the first 3 books.

Personally I think GRRM, even since he wrote the first book, wanted the series to look like this:

1st book (introductions)
2nd book (build-up)
3rd book (blowout, payoff)
4th book (many new characters, cities and angles introduced)
5th book (build-up
6th book (more build-up)
7th book (epic blowout, huge payoff)

As far as the TV series go, if they get to the fourth book, which I'm 99% sure they will, they will have to film the 4th and 5th as one show, separated of course into two seasons halfway into each book. You will understand why when you read Feast.

Man the first 3 books are freaking beyond amazing and GRRM is an author that actually has more realism in regards to deaths to main characters. There is way too many books where 90% of the main characters never die or miraculously recover from all wounds.

The deaths and fantastic plot/storyline changes is what makes this series stand apart from others- it certainly doesn't weaken it.

The 4th book is not as great but not as bad as some fans claim but there had to be a drop off after the first 3 amazing books and Martin split book 4 and 5 in half basically to concentrate on the events in King's Landing in book 4 and out of it in book 5.

They haven't even started filming season 3 as season 2 was just shot and edited for it's start next month. They will probably start shooting season 3 later on this year.

Tyrion: Where do I begin, my lords and ladies? I am a vile man, I confess it. My crimes and sins are beyond counting. I have lied and cheated, gambled and whored. I'm not particularly good at violence, but I'm good at convincing others to do violence for me. You want specifics, I suppose. When I was seven, I saw a servant girl bathing in the river. I stile her robe and she was forced to return to the castle naked and in tears. I closed my eyes, but I could still see her tits bouncing. When I was 10, I stuffed my uncle's boots with goat sh*t. When confronted with my crime, I blamed a squire. Poor boy was flogged, and I escaped justice. When I was 12 I milked my eel into a pot of turtle stew. I flogged the one-eyed snake, I skinned my sausage. I made the bald men cry into the turtle stew, which I believe my sister ate. At least I hope she did. I once brought a jackass and a honeycomb into a brothel....
