Donald Cerrone took five months between fights after his UFC 141 loss to Nate Diaz, and come Tuesday's UFC on Fuel 3 event it appeared to be time well spent. Cerrone was the far superior fighter to Jeremy Stephens on Tuesday night, out-classing him on the feet and making a very solid vet in Stephens look downright inept at times.

Getting that win taken care of puts Cerrone back on track to make a run up the UFC's lightweight division, as he's now 5-1 in six Octagon appearances. But he's not looking to sit out long after this win, as he said after the event he'd like to fight at UFC 150 in Denver, Colo., this August.

"I want to fight in Denver," Cerrone said after the event (transcribed by Sergio Non of USA Today via MMAJunkie.com). "Whoever's begging at the bit to go is who I want to fight."

Cerrone said he's "100%" ready for a top five opponent in the UFC's lightweight division, and when Anthony Pettis' name was brought up, he completely agreed with that fight's merits.

"That'd be a good match-up," Cerrone said. "Stylistically it'll work out perfect for me. He'll stand and want to fight and try and take me down. I'll beat him up, and then we'll keep fighting. That'd be good fight, especially for Denver."

Penick's Analysis: August 11 may be too early for Pettis to return to action after shoulder surgery, but the fight itself is one I like a lot. If Cerrone is hell bent on fighting in Denver, Pettis isn't likely to be his opponent, nor will he likely get a "top five" name. If he can hold out one extra month, Pettis should be able to go in September as was rumored for a potential fight with Nate Diaz. Otherwise, they'll both likely be matched up against decidedly less interesting options in the division.

I’ll admit, on encountering Anderson Silva at the airport, I didn’t think it would be easy. But I grabbed the dark cover with the UFC champion’s face on it, shelled out 24 reais at the cash register and started reading on the plane. It turned out to be an unforgettable flight.

I thought it unlikely that I’d find anything new about Anderson, after so many years following his career. I met the fighter just before Christmas of 2003 in the town Vitória da Conquista, in the Brazilian state of Bahia, in the days leading up to the event that would get his career back on track. We took a seat by the hotel pool and struck up a conversation about his departure from Chute Boxe team, his early days at soccer club Corinthians. And during the fight, against hometown fighter “Diamante Negro”, I’ll never forget the shock on press officer Fernando Flores’s face when he said, “Look at his footwork! This guy’s the best in the world, Dunlop. How can he be fighting here?”

In the book I revisited those leaner times. The really lean times are there too, in contrast to the plump ones of today. It’s no wonder Anderson broke into tears at least three times during the interview that gave origin to the book, penned by Eduardo Ohata. Here’s what I learned from the book about the champion’s life:

1. RESPECT THE MASTERS

Anderson wasn’t a student with many masters because he wanted to be, but because that’s what fate had in store for him. The proof of his respect for them comes in the opening lines, when he mentions all the trainers who brought him up: Leandro Frates, Kang, Edmar Cirilo dos Anjos, Cláudio Dalledone Jr., Fábio Noguchi, Almir Ramos, Diógenes, Gibi, Vitor Ribeiro, André Xaropinho, Rogério Camões, Edelson, Luis Dórea, Sérgio Cunha, Rodrigo Minotauro and Rogério Minotouro.

2. ANDERSON SILVA IN CARANDIRU PRISON

In journalism and in fighting, a professional who starts by throwing his most potent punch may surprise and win right off the bat. The book does a good job of that, opening with a little Anderson arriving at Carandiru, a penitentiary complex in São Paulo where sons cry and their mothers aren’t there to see. It was a chilly day, and Anderson was visiting his stepfather. He promised to never again set foot within those walls, to be an honest person. It wouldn’t be the first time the black belt derived something positive from such a dreadful moment.

3. KEEP AN OPEN MIND

Silva started out in capoeira, embraced taekwondo, learned to box, fell in love with Thai boxing and Jiu-Jitsu. He was never content to only master one aspect of the fight game. He opened his mind, and thanks to that he’s now seen as the best in the world.

4. LESSONS FOR ANYONE WHO FIGHTS IN THE STREET

The book stores two profound lessons for youths who get into street fights. The first, from his taekwondo teacher, a Korean named Kang: “Street fighting is for the weak. When someone gives you an undesirable present and you don’t take it, to whom goes the present? To him. Provocation is the same deal. Don’t accept it.” And the best one, from his uncle Benedito: “Anderson, if you get in a fight in the street I’ll stick you in the dog kennel.”

5. HOW TO DEAL WITH HATE AND RACISM

Anderson has taken a lot of hard knocks—outside the UFC, of course. He’s been socked in the gut by a prejudiced police man, insulted by a customer when he worked at McDonald’s, taken for a thief by his own teacher. Such episodes forged a man who has learned to turn the other cheek. That helps in, for instance, understanding his stance in the face of Chael Sonnen. His disinclination to exact retribution is apparent in his fight with Demian Maia—for which he feels remorse. “I was hateful towards Demian, lost focus and went overboard,” he explains in the book.

6. URGE TO KILL

In the most powerful part, Anderson recalls the day he got slapped across the face by Rafael Cordeiro, now a coach on TUF Brazil, who demanded that he stop teaching Jiu-Jitsu at an upscale gym in the city. Anderson wasn’t even a blue belt, and feared he would be left without a job again, with children to feed. With a revolver given to him by a lowlife friend in his hand, Anderson made the decision that saved his life while sitting in a parked car in front of Chute Boxe academy. “I’m not going to do this. It’s not in my nature – I said, my head bowed down, and returned the weapon,” he says on the riveting page 66.

7. FINAL LESSON

I put down the book after Anderson’s final teaching—in fact, three lessons that were left for after the conclusion of the work.

1. It’s more important to produce good people than champions.

2. The most important thing in life is to become a person your children can be proud of.

3. Going through a rough spot? Always maintain your good cheer.

To me Anderson Silva’s jovial spirit throughout the course of his career is what’s most inspirational—and his greatest weapon. That must be why Chael Sonnen and his other rivals always resort to attacking his good cheer first. If Anderson doesn’t lose it, I feel they’ll just have to settle for second best.

UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos' coach had strong words concerning how his fighter matches up with former UFC Champion Frank Mir. This fight has been put together on short notice following the fallout of the Alistair Overeem scandal and it has given both fighters precious little time to prepare their strategies for one another.

The immediate reaction was the the Champion held a imposing advantage on the feet. Junior dos Santos has a rare combination of speed, power and size that makes him extremely dangerous on the feet. Most fans agreed that Mir's chances are pretty slim on the feet and his only path to victory is to somehow wrestle dos Santos to the mat. There Mir's years of black belt experience in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu could help him secure a submission victory.

From that point of view the biggest challenge Mir faced was somehow closing the distance and solving the puzzle of how to get dos Santos down. The Champions ground grappling ability is completely discounted, in large part because we've haven't seen dos Santos forced to use his grappling in years.

Guilherme Cruz of Tatme caught with dos Santos' jiu jitsu coach Yuri Carlton while he helped prepare the champion for his UFC 146 match with Mir and when asked how dos Santos' skills compares to Mir's, see what he had to say after the jump...

SBN coverage of UFC 146: Dos Santos vs. Mir

This speculations about Mir being better on the ground is bullshit. Cigano is better on the stand-up and on the ground. I'm positive about it!

Strong words to be certain, but not shocking. Coaches are supposed to stand by and instill confidence in their fighters. But what was interesting is what came next.

I'm positive that Cigano's Jiu-Jitsu is better. He trains with the Best guys in Brazil: Minotauro, Minotouro, Anderson, Demian, just to name a few... Frank Mir trains in the United States with some Brazilians, but we have the privilege of training in Brazil. When you're talking about Jiu-Jitsu, Brazil is the place to be.

Training in Brazil vs training in the United States is a debate that has continued in both Mixed Martial Arts and BJJ communities for years now. In the modern realities of both sports to simply assume that not training with Brazilians means that one will have weak grappling is laughable.

The fact that Carlton takes such a direct shot at who Mir is training with is interesting, as Mir's grappling coach is Robert Drysdale. In the lead up to the Forrest Griffin vs Anderson Silva match, Drysdale made several remarks about Anderson Silva's jiu jitsu that did not sit well with the Nogueira Brothers camp. Drysdale is a very accomplished in competitive grappling, more so than Demian Maia or the Nogueira brothers, having won IBJJF and CBJJF world championships, and ADCCs but has never been given the same level of respect by the Brazilian community.

For the second time in a row, The Korean Zombie has come into a fight as the underdog and not only pulled off the win, but done so in spectacular fashion. Last time, it was former UFC Featherweight title challenger Mark Hominick on the receiving end of a 7 second knockout; this time, it was Dustin Poirier being choked out in the main event of UFC on Fuel TV 3. He's proven himself as true contender, a great underdog story and managed to bring the fans into his fights like few others at 145. And now?

The Korean Zombie is the #1 contender to the UFC Featherweight title.

Post-fight, Dana White was at first a bit tentative, telling Ariel Helwani that Jung "may" get the next shot. But at the post-fight press conference, White confirmed that Jung would indeed be the next title challenger. He's moved past Hatsu Hioki, and claimed his spot as #1.

And that is undoubtedly a good thing. Brent Brookhouse already laid out the positives last night - primarily, that Jung is a name fans know and respond to. Sure Hioki may have the better resume (though after the Hominick and Poirier wins - does he?), but fans don't know him. And that's what this young division needs right now - a challenger fans know.

Champion Jose Aldo is currently getting ready for his 4th UFC title challenger. Of those 4, only Kenny Florian was a name opponent to most fans. The rest - Hominick, Mendes, Koch - were simply "the challenger", men in there against Aldo, but not their own individual stories. Jung will change that and make this a fight where both combatants matter.

Despite this, there are some arguments against Jung. He's outclassed. He was KO'd be George Roop not long ago. He can't win. Maybe that's all true. But it's also the exact same thing I said before he faced Hominick, the exact same thing I said before he faced Poirier. And, I admit, I was wrong. Twice.

When Jung does get his shot, particularly if that shot comes against Jose Aldo, I'll probably pick Aldo. I think he's too good with his kicks, too good on the ground, too good of an all-around fighter for the Zombie. But I keep underestimating Jung. Am I underestimating him once again? Can he be the man to dethrone pound for pound great Aldo? I won't be betting on him, but in my heart, I'll be rooting for him to prove me wrong yet again. And that is what a world title fight is all about.
1)
Artur Alibulatov – 10-0-0 - Russian – 20 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 11-11, Last Fought: Mar ’12
Like most the Russians on the light heavyweight list, Alibulatov comes from a Sanda and combat Sambo background. In October, Alibulatov competed in the Ukraine World Cup of Martial Arts, entering three separate three-day tournaments in combat Sambo, kickboxing and MMA. He won gold in all three events, finishing each of his MMA opponents in the first round. On top of his impressive 10-0 record, the Russian has won each of his last 8 fights in the very first round. Although he has been fighting at light heavyweight, the 20 year old walks around at just 200 pounds, so a drop to Middleweight should happen if he makes it to the big leagues.

2)
Ed Gordon – 4-0-0 - American – 28 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 10-8, Last Fought: Apr ’12
American Gordon has fought all his amateur and pro MMA fights exclusively for top regional promotion Ring of Combat. As well as being 4-0 as a pro, the ‘Truck’ was also 3-0 as an amateur. Gordon trains out of a top camp in Serra-Longo – house to fighters such as Chris Weidman, Constantinos Phillippou and Al Iaquinta. The 28 year old has a top wrestling background, and was an All-American in both freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. He was also a 1st team All-State American Football player, so is extremely athletic. Gordon beat 8-fight M1 veteran David Tkeshelashvili (8-4) in just his 3rd fight. In his next fight in June he will fight for the ROC Light Heavyweight title against Carlos Brooks (4-1).

3)
Wagner Prado – 6-0-0 - Brazilian – 24 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 9-8, Last Fought: Apr ’11
Brazilian fighter Prado has a nasty Muay Thai game, and has used it to help him get 5 TKO wins in his 6 fights. Prado is a huge Light Heavyweight and strong as an ox. The 24 year old recently earned his blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu, so is improving that aspect of his game. Prado trains at one of Brazil’s best camps - Team Nogueira, which needs no explanation. He has not fought in a year due to injury, but is due to fight again this upcoming weekend.

4)
Brandon Ropati – 6-0-0 - Kiwi – 22 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 16-2, Last Fought: Mar ’12 – ICNZ Champion
One of just two fighters from New Zealand out of the entire 200-person list, Ropati is also from Samoan and Chinese heritage. He brings a perfect 6-0 record to the table, with 4 of the wins coming via punches. Ropati comes from a wrestling background, but he’s very well rounded and has been training in jiu-jitsu for 5 years. Among his accomplishments in jiu-jitsu include winning bronze in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Cup in Abu Dhabi in 2010. The 22 year old has spent time at American Top Team to train with compatriot Mark Hunt, and last month it was announced that Ropati had signed with top Asian promotion Legend Fighting Championships. In his most recent fight in March the ICNZ Light Heavyweight Champion defended his title with a hard fought decision win over Bellator vet Sam Alvey (17-3).

5)
Sultan Aliev – 5-0-0 - Russian – 27 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 16-2, Last Fought: Mar ’12
The second of an impressive 4 Russians on the Light heavyweight list, Aliev makes it this high due to the good opposition he has faced. Aliev is a former Champion of Sambo in Europe, and a World Cup holder in combat Sambo. In his very first fight he won a decision over the experienced Sergey Guzev (10-2). He also TKO’d Marcin Elsner (7-3) to end his 5-fight win streak, and he also holds a win over Hracho Darpinyan (5-2). After starting out his career with 2 decision wins, Aliev has since won 3 straight by TKO.

6)
Ben Reiter – 4-0-0 - American – 24 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 18-5, Last Fought: Oct ’11 – Inka Champion
Reiter is a big LHW at 6’3”, and he comes from a wrestling background. Reiter is American but has fought his entire career in Peru for the Inka promotion, and he is their Light heavyweight Champion. His accomplishments include winning the 4-man 1-night LHW tournament in August when he was just 1-0. During the tournament he TKO’d Fernando Dauny (11-4) in the semi’s and he ended the 7-fight winning streak of Fernando Di Pierro (9-1) in the final. The 24 year old has finished 4 of his 5 fights, with 3 coming via TKO.

7)
Anthony Taylor – 5-0-0 - English – ?? Years Old - Opponent W/L: 7-0, Last Fought: Nov ’11 – Supremacy FC Champion
Stand-up specialist Taylor has finished all 5 of his fights, finishing 4 by TKO and the other by Submission. The Englishman is extremely aggressive and in his most recent fight he went to the 2nd round for the first time in his career when he TKO’d the previously Mark Godbeer (7-0) – a fighter that has since gone on to sign with BAMMA. Taylor recently signed with top British promotion BAMMA. He was due to make his debut for the promotion against Fraser Opie in March, but the bout was cancelled when Opie pulled out due to injury.

8)
Saparbek Safarov – 5-0-0 - Ukrainian – ?? Years Old - Opponent W/L: 11-4, Last Fought: Dec ’11
Safarov has one of the most impressive records, as he has finished all 5 fights in the first round, with an average fight time of just 90 seconds. He is mainly a stand up fighter, and 4 of the 5 wins have come via TKO. In an infamous incident in 2011, he was due to fight Tomasz Narkun for M1, but during the stare down at the weigh-ins he punched Narkun, and was thus disqualified and banned from M1. Since that incident he has fought once for WUFC, continuing his streak of 1st round stoppages when he beat Igor Silusarchuk (7-5).

9)
Iain Martell – 5-0-0 - English – 21 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 6-11, Last Fought: Feb ’12
British brawler Martell comes from a background in boxing, and at just 21 years old is one of UCMMA’s top prospects. He was 2-0 as an amateur before turning pro, and he has never been to the judges’ scorecards yet in MMA. Just 1 of his fights has gone beyond the 1st round, and he has finished 3 fights by TKO and 2 by Submission. Although he looks like a large LHW, he’s previously stated he wants to drop to Middleweight at some point in the future. He has also appeared on the UK dating show ‘Take me out’.

10)
Justin Friddle – 5-0-0 - American – 25 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 9-12, Last Fought: Apr ’12 – RATR Champion
On top of a 5-0 pro record, Friddle was also 6-1 as an amateur (which included 5 finishes). After starting out his pro career with a decision win, he has since won 4 straight first round finishes. In his most recent fight 2 weeks ago, the 25 year old won the Rumble at the Rodeo Light Heavyweight title with a 60 second knockout. In just his 2nd fight he handed Roman Pizzolato (6-0) his first loss.

11)
Salim Daudov – 4-0-0 - Russian – ?? Years Old - Opponent W/L: 8-5, Last Fought: Nov ’11
Russian fighter Daudov fights for the M1 promotion, and is currently in the process of competing in their European Light Heavyweight tournament. In his most recent fight in the Semi’s he got an upset decision win over 6-fight M1 veteran Sergey Kornev (9-1). Daudov recently went to the judges’ scorecards for the first time in his career after starting with 3 TKO wins.

12)
Max Nunes – 5-0-0 - English – ?? Years Old - Opponent W/L: 3-0, Last Fought: Apr ’12
The 3rd and final Englishman on the Light Heavyweight list, Nunes trains out of the same camp as fellow LHW prospect Jimi Manuwa. Nunes has impressively finished all 5 fights in the very first round, with 3 coming by TKO and 2 by Submission. He fights for top UK promotion UCMMA and in his most recent fight he handed Shane Fourie (3-0) his first defeat.

13)
Marcin Lazarz – 4-0-0 - Polish – 26 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 8-5, Last Fought: Nov ’11
Polish fighter Lazarz trains at England at Team Titan, alongside UFC fighters Brad Pickett and Jason Young. Lazarz is primeraly a grappler, and comes from a Jiu-Jitsu and Wrestling background. He fights for English promotion WFC, and is due to fight for their Light Heavyweight title in the coming months. He has finished 2 of his 4 wins, and his best win came in July over Pavel Doroftei (8-1).

14)
Justin Ledet – 4-0-0 - American – 23 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 6-6, Last Fought: Jan ’12
Young American Light Heavyweight Ledet is 4-0 as a pro after going 3-0 as an amateur. He has finished each of his pro and amateur fights, with most coming by Submission. Ledet is a tall LHW at 6’4” but doesn’t come from any martial art background, though he was a top basketball player in college. In his most recent fight he submitted Shark Fights veteran Isaac Villanueva (7-5). Ledet also gets good training in with top Jiu-Jitsu fighter Draculino.

15)
Todd Stoute – 4-0-0 - Canadian – 28 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 4-2, Last Fought: Dec ’11
Stout is a top Canadian Kickboxer (born in Trinidad), and he’s finished 3 of his 4 fights by TKO. He also gets top wrestling training with UFC fighter Sean Pierson, and boxing training from the Grant brothers. Stoute fought earlier in his career at 250 pounds, but has recently slimmed down to 205. He was due to fight at Instinct MMA 3 in March but had to withdraw due to injury. Outside of MMA, Stoute was jailed in 2004 for 3 and a half years for rape.

16)
David Baudrier – 4-0-0 - French – 30 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 6-4, Last Fought: Nov ’11
Baudrier is the only French fighter on this list, and he has finished 3 of his 4 fights by Submission. Baudrier recently signed for M1, and in November he won in his first fight for the organisation by Submission. His accomplishments include winning the 4-man one-night PFC LHW tournament in 2010, and winning the 2011 French Jiu-Jitsu Open. He is however a small Light heavyweight, so there is a good chance he will drop to Middleweight in the future.

17)
Chris Lokteff – 7-0-0 - Australian – ?? Years Old - Opponent W/L: 6-10, Last Fought: Mar ’12
Australian fighter Lokteff has the impressive record of having finished every fight by TKO, with 6 of the 7 occurring in the very first round. Lokteff doesn’t come from any martial arts background, and begun training MMA just 2 years ago. He trains at top Australian gym Integrated MMA alongside UFC fighter Kyle Noke. Lokteff has fought regularly with all 7 fights coming within the last year, but the downside is that he has faced a very poor level of opposition.

18)
Matthew Pazanin – 5-0-0 - American – 29 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 4-7, Last Fought: Apr ’12
29 year old Pazanin is another Light Heavyweight who has never gone to the judges’ scorecards. He has finished 4 fights by Submission, and 1 by TKO. He made his debut in 2008, and after a 3 year hiatus he has fought 4 times since February of 2011. Pazanin fights out of North Dakota, and his best win was a 2011 Submission of Kyle Olsen (30-23).

19)
Pete Brooks – 5-0-0 - American – 37 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 3-4, Last Fought: Nov ’11 – URCC Champion
Brooks is the oldest fighter of the entire 200 fighters at 37 years old, but he is however the URCC Light Heavyweight Champion. Brooks is an extremely lanky fighter at 6’6” tall, and his frame has helped him to win 4 of his 5 fights by 1st round Submission. The American is based in the Philippines, and besides his first fight he has fought exclusively in Asia. At college he was a top basketball player, and moved onto Jiu-Jitsu a few years ago. Unfortunately he has fought very poor opposition so far, but it is hard to find good Light Heavyweights to fight in Asia.

20)
Jakub Stejskal – 4-0-0 - Czech – ?? Years Old - Opponent W/L: 1-1, Last Fought: Feb ’12
The final fighter on the LHW list is 4-0 Stejskal, who had finished all 4 fights by Submission. He has fought all his fights for the Czech promotion Gladiator Championship Fighting, and in his most recent fight he beat Lukas Tvrdy (1-0). On the downside, the 4 opponents Stejskal has fought only have a combined 2 fights.

I copied this article from the BBC website - although it relates to boxing not MMA, it does highlight (1) the growing use of testosterone in professional sports (2) that boxers aren't exactly the sharpest tools in the box - I love how he "prays for" boxing to be cleaned up at the same time he openly admits to having testosterone pellets incerted in his hip immediately prior to his december fight with Khan - priceless!

Here it is:

Lamont Peterson has rejected calls from Amir Khan to surrender his WBA and IBF belts despite failing a drugs test.

His light-welterweight bout with Khan was due to take place on Saturday, but was called off when the American tested positive for synthetic testosterone.

Peterson says he took the testosterone for medical reasons and hopes a hearing will prove he did not intend to cheat.

Lamont Peterson
•Total fights: 32
•Wins: 30
•Beat Willy Bain in 2009 to win the WBO interim light welterweight title
•Controversially beat Amir Khan for the WBA and IBF light welterweight titles on 10 December 2011
•Tested positive for synthetic testosterone on 12 April 2012

"Let the commission decide, let the sanctioning bodies decide," he said. "Until that point I'm still the champ."

The Nevada State Athletic Commission is scheduled to meet on 13 June to discuss Peterson's case.

The boxer claims his doctor recommended he needed treatment for abnormally low testosterone levels and says he was unaware that the treatment could trigger a failed test.

"If the procedure I done is what gave me the dirty urine, then what else can i say? I made a mistake.," said Peterson. "That's all I can say. apologise for it and try and move on with my career.

"But I think it's wrong for anyone to call me a cheat."

It has emerged testosterone pellets were inserted into Peterson's hip before he beat Britain's Khan in a controversial bout last December.

"I've never been a cheat. I don't like it when people cheat," added Peterson. "It's just my word but the pellets didn't do anything to help me beat him."

Having called for drug testing to be written into the contract for his rematch against Khan, Peterson believes that his positive test will serve as a wake-up call to the boxing authorities over the lack of consistency in anti-doping measures.

"Boxing is really an unorganised sport," said Peterson, 28. "So many things happen, back-door things, cheating, all type of things.

“At the end of the day if I cheat, I don't win and I'm one who loves to win and I don't need nobody or anything to help me to win
”

Lamont Peterson
"And using PEDs (performance enhancing drugs) is one of the key things in boxing right now. Everyone is familiar with PEDs and things like that. I, as a person for one, do not like that.

"I'm someone who's never cheated in his life about anything. I just don't feel like a winner if I cheated.

"Boxing is already a rough sport. We don't need to make it rougher by someone taking a drug to make themselves that much better, and putting someone's health at risk."

Peterson said boxing "needed to be cleaned up", adding: "Like I said, this is something that I actually sit down at night in my bed and pray for."

For now, Peterson is focusing his attention on the Nevada hearing. He intends to apply for a licence to box, knowing the outcome will determine his immediate and possible long-term future in boxing.

"I just want them - the commission - to know that I didn't intend to cheat or gain any advantage," he said.

"At the end of the day if I cheat, I don't win and I'm one who loves to win and I don't need nobody or anything to help me to win.

"I just want them to know that I didn't attempt to cheat.

"I'm not a cheater and I really don't know how to put in words to tell them. I'm confident we can prove I'm innocent of any wrongdoing."

When Ultimate Fighting Championship bantamweight kingpin Dominick Cruz went down with a torn knee ligament, attention immediately turned to opponent Urijah Faber and who he could face in an interim title bout at UFC 148 on July 7 in Las Vegas.

The name of Renan “Barao” Pegado topped many a list. Still scheduled to meet Ivan Menjivar at the event, the 25-year-old Brazilian was humbled by the suggestion. Pegado (28-1), on an 18-fight winning streak, last fought at UFC 143 in February, when he captured a unanimous decision from Scott Jorgensen.

“I’m watching the campaign on Twitter and Facebook,” Pegado told Sherdog.com. “It’s nice to be remembered, but it’s in God’s hands.”

The Nova Uniao representative has his hands full with Menjivar, who has rattled off three consecutive victories, two of them finishes, since he returned to the UFC in 2011.

“I’m training for Menjivar,” Pegado said. “The UFC hasn’t told me anything. I’ll face whoever they put in front of me.”

Still, Pegado admits he has already imagined himself across the cage from Cruz or Faber.

“My training is directed at Ivan,” he said. “Of course, I would be glad to fight Faber in July, but I know one day it will happen. When the time comes, I’ll be prepared for him and for anyone else.”
