Hey Everyone.

I wanted to start a thread and really have a full on conversation about what happen here with some very popular members and staff.

We truly want things to be great around here again and the only way for that to happen is to get feedback from you guys.

Please tell us everything that you're feeling and ask any questions that want answered.

I can't promise that you you are going to like everything you hear, but we can promise you that will be up front and honest about what happened.

No worries of anger from us, just please don't get things so carried away that it has to get stopped early. We really do want to hear from you and gauge the best way to bring this forum out of the situation at hand.

Thank you in advance for any posts in here.

The Staff

EDIT: I want everyone to understand that there will be no recruiting done in this thread. Anything that can be taken as such will be edited or deleted.

I was on vacation for a week and noticed a lot of pink on high ranking users when I got back; thought it was a joke. My contribution to this thread is my absolute ignorance as to what's going on.

Anyone willing/able to offer a recap?

#3 ·
Sure,

It seems that several of the more popular members deided to start their own forum and got quite a few of the higher ranking staff members to be apart of the new forum, thus allowing them to spam this forum and doing everything they could to pull all the members from here to there. A lot of stuff occured, bashing of VS, blatent posting of the URL with post like "cool people post here" or something like that. It got so out of hand that the higher ups at VS pretty much did a clean sweep of those involved.

It was a sad day here.

Quite honestly we're bringing in the big guns and a person we feel can add the most to MMAF.

He will be opening 2 new sections on the forum: "Aerobics in short-shorts" and "Hugging 101"

Ladies and gentlemen please welcome our newest staff member; RICHARD SIMMONS! :happy01:

You can go to "view forum's leaders" at the bottom of the page Rob, they have all the staff there.

And as for the situation here, it is very unfortunate. I've been here for a few months now and I've grown to really like this forum, and its members a lot. But actions had to be taken, rightfully so, and hopefully we can get this place buzzing again.

#13 ·
only a few months? damn it seems like you have been here awhile.:confused03:

i still dont get the loyalty towards them but not the forum. its not those few people who made this place great but every poster on here. BTW has any one now what has happened to Damone? if he left over this then thats the biggest loss of them off.

#9 ·
Yeah, I think I'm just gonna stay here. No need to make the complete change over, this place is still legit. Chris, if you need any help lemme know.

I don't post in the UFC section anymore because I am just down right sick of reading and talking about the same shit over and over. I don't give 2 shits about GSP and Penn and I certainly don't give a shit about how dominant GSP is.

My favorite UFC fighter is Jardine, there was a discussion on him and Jackson for like 3 day's, that's it. I got to argue for a few minutes what I thought about the fight and then it was over. GSP/Penn II has been over for almost 2 month's and there's still shit going on about it. Am I the only one that is angered by this?

The main sections of the forum are being crowded with new members that resurrect old and tired topic's. The rate the merging goes at is too slow for my taste so I just don't post there.

Also, I really do not like seeing every piece of shit that has 2 and a half post's with a full rep bar. It took me over a year of solid discussion's and open minded speeches to obtain my green one. Now, everyone and his dog has the full rep bar. I don't like.

I wanna get back to some serious arguing in the UFC section. I want to tear into someone the next time I see a thread on Anderson Silva and I want to have a decent arguement. Not just a new user who says newbish and childish thing's like 'Silva teh pwneage!?!?!?!?lolololol'

I like this forum and will stick around but if it remain's in the same condition it is now then you'll probably only see me in the Lounge.

We all feel this way and that's one of the things that we want to get fixed here.

We do need more diverse conversation in the UFC sections. We do need more people stepping up and talking about other topics. Hell, we need people to step up and CREATE THREADS ABOUT OTHER TOPICS!!!

This is one of the things that we need to talk about.

What can we go to get things more entertaining and stimulate the MMA conversations more and more???

Mj, I understand your side, but I think it's the fact that you stated that you were no longer going to post here on mmaf anymore once fld is gone full steam. You and a couple other members said that. I like you guys a lot, but that in my opinion is wrong.

I remember one of the last thread's I made in the UFC section. It was on a fight I want to see in the LHW division.

Jon Jones vs Luiz Cane. I believe I entitled it; I want to see....'

Got zero replies and it was off the main page in like 10 minutes. Can't say I didn't try to add something different. (With a proper search of the last threads I made I'm sure I could locate it but I probably won't.)

If people didn't want to see that fight then fine, disagree but at least tell me why you disagree. Isn't that the whole point of this place?

On the other board I got to discuss Liddell's future, the contract with Coleman and Bonnar and UFC 99 about Franklin vs Silva. Got legit reponses for each post I made and I enjoyed it alot. Right now on the main page there is not one topic I feel like opening, not a single one. Cole vs Browning? Who gives a shit. A new thread on the UFC video game, there's a fucken surprise. Dana White addressing the Affliction counter move, there ain't a whole lot to disagree with in there. Everyone pretty much agrees its a stupid move for Affliction.

EDIT; Banned from BJpenn This was just added. :confused03: noone cares man!

So, what can I do to make it better? I honestly don't know. I can complain alot more but that won't do it. I really miss the 2007 day's.

Honestly fellas we try and move/delete/merge similar topics so there aren't as many same-style ones all over the place. It becomes FUBAR when someoe post a "GSP is not a cheater IMO" thread and then another starts "Greasegate: what are you thoughts? Poll included".

Quite honestly there are a lot topic threads I avoid now ie- "Fighter A says 'I will beat Fighter B' in this event". We'll try our best to create some new good topic threads and we'll help ones that good posters start.

One thing is though ATM it is a pretty dead time MMA-wise after the massive amount of events in Jan. and Feb. One idea is to check out K-1 as hardly anyone goes there but it has some great fights and tourneys to get into.

I will say this regarding the lack of solid threads in the UFC section.

I agree that we need to diversify the topics in the UFC section and that has already been addressed in this thread.

The other thing that I wanted to address though is this. We have a real attitude problem with many of the established members on this site. Allow me to explain:

When a new member joins and makes a thread like " GSP is the greatest, who agrees ", they are immediately attacked by other members and called an idiot and a n00b and all other kinds of things. Most of the time somebody neg reps them to oblivion and treats them like a troll from their very first post. Nobody ever schools them up nicely and encourages them to come up with an original thread topic.

This is an old problem around here that has never been corrected and it need to be corrected now. The bottom line is that if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything. Even better than that though, take the time to get to know the new members and bring them up right.

Also, when a new member makes a positive contribution to this site, let them know and respond to their post with something constructive. Many times I see a good post by a new member that gets absolutely no replies to it. Yet all around it the older members are chatting it up amongst themselves. This is what happened to me for my first 6 months at least. I was making solid posts and nobody would give me the time of day....and yes, I'm talking about many of you that still post here.

Now this is something I agree with, and try to implement as well. Unless I know for a fact that you're just trying to stir things up, or are being stupid, I tend to not be so negative. For example: I actually tried helping Horus Ra out a couple of times. But that guy just doesn't listen.

#43 ·
I tried to help Ra out as well, sent him multiple PM's about advice.

The thing about seeing the new member's is that I have been skipping over their opinion's for a long time now. I usually only read the post's of the people who are established member's. If these new guy's are legit and want to be apart of the site then I will see their name's around more and will pay more attention to them.

Just earlier in the UFC section I was trying to address my issue by replying to a few thread's. I read through new, unpaid member's post's and they seemed solid. But one guy, with 13 post's is sitting pretty in the green. Once again, that bother's me. 13 solid post's do no warrant that type of reputation.

If reputation meant anything anymore then maybe, yeah, I'd pay more attention to the nonpaid, new member's. But it is really difficult to filter who those guy's are when your looking at a sea of full reputee's.

I'm glad I got to read mjb's posts because of you guys quoting him, but why did you delete them? I do think the banned members at least deserve to have their side of the story for public view, it would be the democratic thing to do.

Anyways regarding the MMA areas of the forum, I think they need a revamp. I mean, look at the "In The Ring!" section; 12 subsections to click on! IMO it is a little intimidating and makes the forum look sloppy. What about making "Western MMA", "Eastern MMA" and (maybe) "European MMA" subsections so you can have several promotions within one click? Remember, interweb users are lazy as can be, so the less searching and clicking the better.

Other sections could use a little cleaning up too, like the "More MMA Discussion" area. If you condense the "In The Ring!" section you could probably just merge the two. Might be good to get rid of the "Women of MMA" section, that place tends to be a cesspool anyways, a lot of that discussion can go in the General MMA area or the Lounge.

And the rep system, I see this problem a lot; the older a forum gets the more broken the rep system will become. People have such powerful rep nowadays that 1 pos rep will jolt a new user to full bars - there is definitely something wrong with this. Perhaps a complete rep wipe every year or two would help fix this. By the end of the year, maybe giving awards or just a thread showing who got the most rep would give the system a little more meaning, especially if everyone had to start from scratch.

I'm just throwing some ideas out there because imo this forum could use a little spring cleaning.

We got in trouble with the rep system when we did the reset on the credits. There were certain members that we actually repping according to the amount of credits they had and not the amount of rep. That's how the system got to where it is today.

I have to admit that I'd like to see the rep system get reset, but I don't know if it's possible or not. We'll have to look in to that.

For right now, try and actually read the posts and decide for your selves if the poster is good or not.

I know it's not much, but it's all I can tell you.

And as far as MJB's post, it got deleted becuase he really needs to be talking to myself, Norway or TBF right now and not crying out to members for sympathy.

We need to take a look at everything that occured and figure out the best path for the forum it's self.

As much as I like a democratic way of doing things, that's not what we have here. We have a business that's run and paid for by a corporation and these guys were trying to mess with their money. No one likes their money messed with and we are trying to see what can be done to get things as close to normal as they used to be.

#47 ·
yeah in cod 4 and 5 once you reach teh top level you can do 'prestige mode' where you basicly start from scratch again but you have a diffeanrt sort of medal thing.

if many other users feel the same about the rep situation is there a way to reset the rep or something?

when i first joined up i was in full green within a couple of weeks but not for my MMA discusion, (well some of the first reps i got where) but most of the more powerful reps which got me to full green where just from posting funny stuff in the lounge

#48 ·
The rep system is broken and always will be if you think your green bars mean somehing they dont, I dont even look at the bars I just like to look at it and see if somebody likes or doesnt like what I had to say.

As for what Junkie is saying he has a great point, I remember the first time I ever joined a message board I made a thread right away because I wanted to make a thread, not because I thought I had a new and original idea for discussion, it takes a while if you have never been on a message board to catch on to the required etiquette that helps make a good poster.
