Who should wear MMA clothing?

Personally, I think it depends on the brand. For people who don't train at all, I think the more mainstream-looking or fan type stuff is ok (Affliction, Wand, Chute Boxe, fighters' custom shirts). People that train can wear pretty much everything, but I don't think people who don't fight should wear stuff like Full Contact Fighter.

What do you guys think? If you pick it depends, please explain.

Seriously, who cares? I think anyone should be able to wear anything, I just associate TapouT with bros now instead of MMA, but so what?
I was just curious what people thought. Personally, I think it's kind of wannabe for someone to wear Tapout, Full Contact Fighter, etc. if they don't fight or even train.

Ya, but who really cares if they're "wannabes"? Theyre spending money on MMA brands, and in turn making MMA bigger in a whole. I say the more people into MMA(in any way, shape, or form) the better

Wear 'em If You Got 'em!

i personally wouldn't wear them if i didn't train ($50 for a pair of shorts?!) but as mentioned above, if you can wear an nba shirt or a "property of ..." shirt, why not mma gear? i had an inside pocket sewn into my tapout trunks so i can wear them as casual wear and no one has ever asked where i train.

i guess its okay to understand that if its a UFC shirt or a PRIDE shirt, its reasonable to assume that the person is a fan, an observer or one who attended an event and got a souveneir,

if its sprawl, nogi, koral, i tend to be drawn to them because i like talking about gi's and fight shorts, gloves and cups... the people who have tried them make me a smarter buyer for equipment i need or am looking forward to purchasing for training.

This sounds alot like one of those non skateboarders wearing skate gear conflicts in a way. The ppl that don't skate would be the poseur where the skater has earned the right by injury and practice. The whole outlook really depends on who you ask. I agree with zderekv in the fact that I wouldn't buy it all if I didn't take part in it. But I also agree with wukkadb in the fact that it's just pumping more ppl and money into MMA as a whole and just pushing the sport further everyday.

Some guy I saw at my school's weightroom was wearing a tapout t-shirt today. I asked him where he trained and he didn't know what I was talking about. I think that wearing MMA clothes like that should be seen as an open invitation for anyone to throw down, at any time. Next time you see someone in a tapout t-shirt, shoot for a take down

I think everyone should be able to wear MMA clothing. If you support the sport and want to wear mma clothing then go for it. It doesn't hurt anybody.

I would wear something with the ufc logo on it for example, but not sprawl b/c i don't do any grappling.

I'd wear the everlast logo, b/c I do train boxing, but not fairtex or windy, b/c i have done no kickboxing sparring.

It's a fine line, I guess. I'd feel like an idiot if I knew nothing about the sport/brand whose logo I was wearing.

I don't think it should be an elitest thing, like all fighters identify themselves by wearing fight gear. I can understand the logic in supporting a fighter or camp.

I doesn't make sense that you should need to train at Chute Boxe to wear a Chute Boxe shirt.

If you're supporting a fighter or a team, then I understand wearing the shirt.

Still, if it makes people act like punks (and I've seen that happen a couple of times), then they shouldn't do it, or at least be aware that there are consquences.

I picked "depends." There's a reason.

I was walking back from no-gi jiujitsu with my OTM shorts on. The velcro piece that runs across the top says Built-2-Fight across it in big letters. What I didn't realize is that the front of my shirt was tucked into the shorts a bit. As I'm walking down the street some woman in front of me says "You see that... built to fight... he's CRAZY!" Loud enough for me to hear her.

After that incident I realized that the shorts may be an open invitation to fight if I'm walking through the wrong part of town. I'm a lot more careful about the shirt being tucked in. All I need is some dude with something to prove to test whether the logo on my shorts really applies to me or not!

Another point about my shorts... they are a little shorter than a lot of board shorts, have a fairly long split on the outside of each leg, and have black gi material attached to the front of the shorts ("I think they call them grip shorts"). These are not shorts that are made for everyday wear. I would have to say that anyone wearing them who doesn't train would look like a douche. But this isn't a brand thing. OTM makes other stuff that would be fine on anyone.

Tucking a t-shirt into shorts is just gay anyways.
