Grappling in Muay Thai Shorts

I'm probably going to start doing some BJJ/grappling soon. Should I shell out $40-$60 for a pair of fight shorts / grappling shorts, or can I just wear my Muay Thai shorts? Is there anything that makes the fight shorts better for grappling than the Muay Thai shorts?

Also, I noticed everyone in the No Gi BJJ class wears a rash guard. I am guessing that rolling around on the mat can rub your skin the wrong way or something. So should I get a short sleeve or long sleeve rash guard?

Dude, don't waste money and buy a pair of shorts just for grappling. I don't think your clothes should be a problem if you're doing No Gi
