First, as a Christian, you may want to avoid talking about "forcing anyone else to have the same belief." That's not something that we really need to bring up, because I get heated pretty quickly about the subject.

I don't get offended by it as an atheist that a guy is a Christian, or that he's representing Christianity. I get offended as a fighter, because it is the fighter that does the work, and to pass that credt off to someone else seems ridiculous, and a counterpoint to the entire purpose of training to be independent and capable.

That's just my opinion on the issue, but I see faith as irrelevant in the Octagon, and you seem like a better guy than some of the Bible beaters I've fought (and subsequently beaten), but I still don't understand the correlation between faith and fighting ability, and I don't think that it's something that needs to be brought into the cage, but that's just my opinion, and clearly you disagree with me.

I'll can only explain the correlation as it relates to me, and I'll drop it. I believe that God has created me with the skill, ability, and desire to succeed. All of those are motivating factors/reasons why I pursue the things I do (in general... not just MMA). Since I believe that all of the good things in me come from God, I thank Him (in all that I do) because I believe I am the result of His work.

Interesting thread. I am catholic (not hardcore catholic) but I do not push my religion on anyone whether your are Buddhist, muslim, or athiest. I respect peoples own beliefs and listen to their perspectives of faith or no faith. But expect the same back. As far as praying if I compete in a tournament. For me I pray for the safety of my opponent and myself. Thats my 2 cents.

very cool....Yeah from my experience I think that only like 1 out of like 100 Christians I know would every even think about pushing their beliefs on someone else......

Its just the extremists that get the most attention...which is a bad sample if you ask me.....Christianity isn't something that can be taught....you have to feel it for yourselves......If you don't the hey....you just dont I guess...

I'm an not a religious person, but i am a very spiritual person, being a philosopher, and i meditate and question existence and etc. Knowing yourself is essential to being a good fighter, because there are two people in the ring in a fight.

You.

And the person you are beating that particular day.

If you know yourself, then you know you're gonna beat your opponent.

Simple.

The best don't talk in ifs and maybes, they talk in terms of "I will" and "He won't."
The best are already training for their next fight because they know they've already won.

In my personal opinion, i don't think relying on God in a fight for him to interfere in his Providence is going to happen, the only person who makes their Providence is themselves.

In sum, religion and spirituality are important to your mindset, but the only person you can rely on is yourself, and thats simply empirical truth.
