Is full face headgear necessary?

i see that there is headgear that covers the head like this style http://www.combatsports.com/prodinfo.asp?number=EVUOH.

there is head gear that covers the face like this http://www.combatsports.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SC/

and there are headgears like these http://www.combatsports.com/prodinfo.asp?number=EG06.

i would like to know if it makes a huge difference which i buy considering i want to do mma. i prefer the third because im accustomed to wrestling and those gave me a nice fit while not being bulky. i appreciate all opinions! and if there are nice headgears that you recommend that aren't too hard on the pockets i would gladly listen to your recommendations.

Thanks everyone

The first one is your standard headgear, for boxing and kickboxing, the second is the wrong link, and the thirst isnt heard gear, its earguards for when your grappling, its good for preventing cauliflower ear. When you mma spar, most ofter you dont use headgaer, unnless its ear protectors, when kickboxing, the first one is the best IMO.

So in your opinion if i do mma i shouldnt buy ear guards? i should buy full head gear? the third link is supposed to be full face head gear with a face plate over. the reason i like the ear guards is because i wrestled using them. and your vision isnt affected at all.. do you know any good head gear at a good price that i can use for mma? meaning MT, BJJ, sambo, grappling and such? hopefully not too bulky?

At our gym we don't even use head gear most of the time but you can if you choose to. But we also spar mostly w/ 16oz gloves unless there is going to be some ground involved. Some competitions have you wear headgear. My best suggestion is ask the instructors what gear they recommend to get.

you're call or instructors. I just came from sparring without headgear but we were using 16oz gloves. I have sparred a few times without. Again it is really up to you. If you only go about 60-80% I would invest in a good mouthpeice 1st then as you go harder guage whether you want head ggear or not.

kk thanks crusher, i really appreciate the advice. i think i will start with a mouth piece and buy headgear afterwards. unless i find some leather headgear for under 40. in which case i think it's worth buying!

If you find a quality leather one under $40 let me know I might be interested in that for competition use.

i'll definitely let everyone know if i find a good pair of headgear, and i'll also start a thread for my shipped gloves and shin guards. your comments on your products were good so i think everyone wants to know what seems good. especially those compression shorts.. i think i need some with a cup. dont wanna get rocked in the balls while fighting

The shock Doctor compression w/ cup are great! check out their website for sizing before you order. Yes it is highly recommended to have a cup especially once you start inside leg kicks. My training partner is about 4" taller than me w/ reach advantage so I have had some close ones.
