Fedor talks fighting in the summer, US based MMA and the UFC

Quote:
Probably, the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, Fedor Emelianenko, says he really wants to hold more bouts in Russia, but it is the US which is still the hottest spot for mixed martial arts.

*“I can tell you the timing of my next bout right now,” Fedor said in his interview with Sportbox.ru. “It’s going to be June or July.”

The venue of the match has not been set yet, but, according to the 35-year-old, the match is most likely to take place in the US.

“Of course, I want to compete at home, in front of my countrymen,” the Last Emperor stressed. “But at the moment, the strongest and most respected MMA organization is situated in America. It’s the UFC. Therefore, I have to go to the US in order to face the strongest opponents.”

The clash against Jeff Monson in November last year, was Emelianenko’s only appearance in the ring in Russia after he became a global star in the MMA.

There is also no certainty about the name of his opponent, with the media reports linking Fedor to possible bouts against American fighters – Cain Velasquez and Josh Barnett.

The Russian confirmed that both options are now being discussed, but added that he would like to avoid taking on Barnett.

“I really sympathize with Josh, and we’ve been friends for a long time,” he said. “Perhaps, he is the only fighter whom I wouldn’t want to meet in the ring.”

Fedor last held an MMA bout on New Year’s Eve, knocking out Japanese fighter Satoshi Ishii. The Russian’s record in the ring is now 33 wins, four losses and one no-contest.

+1 for article.

I don't blame Fedor for not wanting to fight Barnett (on top of being friends, they were schedules to fight in Affliction when Josh tested positive for banned substance).

I'd love to see Cain vs. Fedor, but it might be one of those too little too late scenarios in his career.

This could have happened back in 2007 Post Pride FC ... damn M1

Thanks,

But even at this stage of his career, I still want to see him in the UFC. Even if he gets to fight only mid-tier guys and work his way up.

Fedor and his scumbag Russian mob boss promoters can get fukced as far as I'm concerned. The UFC bent over backwards to snatch up Fedor back when he was relevant, and M1 had no interest in even remotely playing ball. Were I Dana, I'd spare myself the headache. These goons had their opportunity.

As far as I know Fedor isn't associated with the Russian mafia. Sure it is a bummer that M-1 Global didn't want to work it out but it happened. Dana probably doesn't really care.

Despite all of the shenanigans with M1 and fighting less then respectable competition lately, I would still love to see Fedor fight in the UFC. There is one thing Fedor has never been and that is boring to watch. I hope he ends up under the Zuffa flag for at least a couple of fights. Doubtful, but it would be sweet.

If Fedor came into the UFC at LHW I would STILL shit myself.

I'm not counting on it.. but I'd LOVE to see him bomb it out with Machida.

The thing is he could actually reinvent himself that way by dropping down. However, like Cro Cop he doesn't feel he has to. Unfortunately for both of them fighters now are really big.

I do believe he is/was the last piece of the Pride puzzle. There will be huge fan fare still for him in either LHW or HW. Still can't believe Hendo KOed em... Old man strength...

Cain would be a very interesting fight. But I'd like to see Frank Mir...haha. He beat Big Nog x 2 and Crocop. I think deep down inside the Pride fellas would pull for "The Last Emperor."

I'd rather see him vs JBJ though.

Marcus Aurelius: Tell me again, Maximus, why are we here?
Maximus: For the glory of the Empire, sire.

Baked, not fried... the healthy choice.

You are probably right in that he's the last peace of the Pride puzzle. Also you are right in that he's got something of a cult following. As for Hendo, he's similar to Randy Couture.
