4 guys 'pretend' to jump me while walking home

I cant really see how to deal with such situations other than to avoid them.

I was walking home and ahead I saw 4 guys who were acting loud. I saw them saying stuff to some other guy ahead of me which was probably also tooling him. Often I will find antoher route in these situations but I wanted to test the hypothesis that they were actually gonna be dicks and it seems my preconceptions were not unwarranted thus reinforcing my belief to stay away form such idiots in future.

So as I go by them one asks me 1st 'hey do you wanna buy a watch?'

I say 'no thank for the offer'.

Then he says something else I forgot tho obv trying to get compliance out of me. He then asks what football team I support and I become stifled hesitating what to say which he must have sensed then as I had turned my back he shouts 'get him boys!' and must have pretended to run after me.

I turned my head slowly as I didnt even hear what he said till my head had turned and they werent following and they just laughed.

How would others have dealt with the situation?

Whip it out and run towards them at full speed while pretending to cry. If at that point they still decide to jump you, there was nothing you could have done to stop them.

You shouldn't really do anything at this level. Obeying the law is the best option. Under the law they do have the right to say "Do you want to buy a watch?" and "Boys, jump this guy!"

You have all the right to ignore them by not answering them. And when you ignore them and they start to invade your privacy physically like trying to touch you or throw stuff at you, defend yourself first and you must call the cops to report the incident. When you don't report the incident, a supposed assault with you being the victim will turn into a fight between you and him.

I prefer the "sammy from blue mountain state" approach.
