Gunderson vs. Parisyan now headlines ShoFIGHT 20; Lopes, Reese also added
The lineup for ShoFIGHT's first-ever professional card is complete with a new main event of John Gunderson (33-13-2) vs. Karo Parisyan (20-8), as well as the addition of Lucas Lopes (19-13) and J.P. Reese (6-2).
Additionally, MMAjunkie.com's John Morgan and three-time UFC veteran Jason Reinhardt have been hired to serve as the evening's broadcast team.
ShoFIGHT CEO J.T. Tilley recently announced the additions to ShoFIGHT 20, which takes place June 16 at O'Reilly Family Event Center on the campus of Drury University in Springfield, Mo.
Gunderson replaces Shamar Bailey in the evening's main event and now faces Parisyan for the promotion's first-ever welterweight title.
Bailey was forced out of the matchup after suffering a TKO loss to Lucas Pimenta Borges on May 4 in Texas, leading to a medical suspension that left him unable to compete.
Gunderson had been expected to face "The Ultimate Fighter 12" cast member Sevak Magakian (10-3) at ShoFIGHT 20 but will now fight for the title, instead. Now replacing Gunderson is American Top Team's Reese, a two-time Bellator and onetime Strikeforce veteran who's been competing professionally since 2010. Prior to his MMA career, Reese wrestled at the University of Missouri, where he held the school record for career pins before his mark was bested by Ben Askren.
Meanwhile, three-time Strikeforce veteran Lopes steps in to face Sam Alvey, who was originally slated to fight Shonie Carter. "Mr. International" was recently struck by a car, and while his injuries did not prove severe, they were substantial enough to keep him from fighting.
ShoFIGHT was launched in April 2010, and the promotion has already held 19 sold-out amateur events in Branson, Mo. ShoFIGHT 20 marks the company's first professional event and airs via tape-delay on July 1. The pay-per-view broadcast, which features Reinhardt and MMAjunkie.com lead staff reporter Morgan on the mic, will be available in more than 90 million homes, according to Tilley, thanks to deals with AT&T, MediaCom and OnDemand, among others.
Tickets for ShoFIGHT 20, which are available at DruryTickets.com, run from just $18 to $118 for ringside seats.
