Ovince St. Preux vs. T.J. Cook

Quote:
As expected, Ovince St. Preux (11-5 MMA, 5-1 SF) will face T.J. Cook (12-4 MMA, 1-1 SF) in August at "Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman."

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) first reported the plans earlier this month, and Strikeforce officials today confirmed the contest.

Featuring a women's bantamweight title fight between champion Ronda Rousey and former champion Sarah Kaufman, "Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman" takes place Aug. 18 at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego.

The evening's main card airs on Showtime, and Showtime Extreme carries the preliminary fights. It's currently unknown where the St. Preux vs. Cook fight resides.

St. Preux looks to rebound from his first loss under the Strikeforce banner, a December 2011 loss to Gegard Mousasi. Prior to the result, St. Preux had won eight consecutive fights, five of which came while fighting for Strikeforce. In fact, during a remarkable seven-week stretch in late 2010 and early 2011, the former University of Tennessee defensive end/linebacker scored decision wins over Antwain Britt, Benji Radach and Abongo Humphrey.

Cook, meanwhile, also saw a win streak come to an end with a recent defeat. After claiming five straight victories, including a TKO of Lionel Lanham in his July 2011 Strikeforce debut (which he took on four days' notice), the nine-year pro suffered a submission loss to Trevor Smith at Strikeforce Challengers 20 in November.

Both fighters now compete for the first time in 2012.
