Nate Marquardt considers himself to the best welterweight in the world

Marquardt looked solid against Woodley en route to a knockout set up by a pair of standing elbows followed by an uppercut to seal the deal. The win improved the 33-year old’s overall record to 32-10-2 and was his ninth win by way of strikes.
No opponent has been named for Marquardt’s first title-defense though a logical selection could be Jason High. High also exited this weekend’s event with his hand raised, choking out Nate Moore in the opening round to notch his seventh straight victory.

I know, emotions and all after the fight but maybe he should have a few more 170 fights before he starts calling himself the best in the division.

Would it even be possible for a fighter to enter top 10 rankings on his debut at a division?

Nate has all of the tools to be the best WW in the world. He really does.

Be he hasn't put anything in that even makes that statement possible to validate for a second.

Obviously he isn't #1 or even top 10 right now until he beats someone higher ranked.

I wonder who he'll fight next, there aren't too many great options in the current Strikeforce.

I wonder what his buddy GSP thinks about that.

Pretty much this!

Time is against him age wise and he hasn't proved anything in the UFC at that weight class. I think Nate spoke out of emotion instead of just saying 'I'm one of the best' and leaving it at that.

There is something else in addition to his lack of experience at the weight class. He's training partners with the actual best welterweight in the world. So unless he's going to pull a Rashad/Jones then that fight isn't going to happen.
