Ronda Rousey: 'If Cris Cyborg Comes Off The Juice, She'll Make The Weight

In the wake of Strikeforce Women's Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey's first title defense, all the WMMA talk has surrounded her fighting former Featherweight champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos. Santos spent her Strikeforce career dominating the 145 lb. division before testing positive for steroids following her bout with Hiroko Yamanaka in December. With Santos's year long suspension nearing its end, both women have been discussing the possibility of a WMMA super fight.

Monday night, MMA Live got Rousey's thoughts on fighting Cyborg:

You know what? That girl's been cheating for her entire career and she's not the champion. She was stripped of her belt. It's not like she was fighting before and suddenly you saw huge muscle mass increase in her last fight. Everyone can tell she's been cheating her entire career. The whole time she's had that belt, I think, is just a fraud. If she comes off the juice she won't have a problem making the weight.

Now that she sees she's probably going to get her but kicked...she's saying she can't make it. Who else is she gonna fight besides me anyway? I got a whole line of girls waiting to fight me and she needs to fight me or else she's pretty much done.

She has to come fight me. She has no other options and I don't owe her anything.

On Saturday, Rousey went out of her way to challenge Santos. Despite that and her strong words here, she's actually making it more difficult for the fight to happen. As Fraser Coffeen explained, weight class disputes have a long history of destroying potential inter-divisional bouts. Santos went on record last week to say she would not be able to make the 135 lb. Bantamweight limit. If that's true and Rousey refuses to compromise in a Catchweight bout, it's unlike that this fight will come to fruition.

Either Cyborg makes weight or they make a catchweight. Rousey has absolutely zero reason to go up in weight. She's the face of WMMA, most dominant female MMA fighter ever and she has the belt. Cyborg on the other hand is coming off from a suspension because she got caught roiding.

While it's debatable that Rousey could easily go up in weight, i hope she doesn't. Why should she..

If you're going to call someone out and you're parading around like you're untouchable, it kind of looks cowardly when you make these stipulations. Absolutely a Ronda fan and agree she doesn't owe her anything, but just looks fishy when you're calling someone out when there's a good possibility the fight won't materialize under these conditions.

3 quick thoughts:

1. Everyone makes such a big deal of GSP taking the time to move up properly. You think Ronda just retains some water? or carries a little more fat?

2. Dana has said the 145 division is dead. If Ronda puts on muscle and beats his ass at 145 who does she fight next? all the talent is at 135.

3. Ronda by armbar.

I agree with Ronda completely, we know Cyborg is a pedhead, Ronda's the champ, hell Cyborg herself said her division is dead, so wtf come down to where the other girls are...

Also saying Cyborg "can't " make the drop is a total bullshit excuse. It might take some time but fortunately for her she has time. Ronda is definitely not the one looking scared in my eyes.

DONT BE SCARED HOMMIE!

Total bullshit huh? Assuming you've experienced weight cutting, this is a dumb comment when you consider how built and lean Cyborg is. Also it is harder for women to change weight classes as it takes more time to build/lose mass and cut weight due to higher bodyfat% then men.

Day after another I'm increasing my hate for this new comer! Who won the belt and started talking Bul******t.

We all know that she can make it to 145, or at least request a catch weight non-title fight, or get lost and STFU.

PLEASE NOTE: I'm no fan of Cyborg either, but I hate people who when they win a belt or two or three fights, start barking around!

I tend to agree that Cyborg would easily make 135. Look at her earlier in her career. She didn't have a body that even remotely resembled what we've seen recently. She needs to get off the juice, still work out like crazy and I bet that over the course of 6-9 months she would see a significant decrease in mass.

In defense to Cyborg...Ronda had almost what you would say baby fat or bulkiness at 145. Now she looks hella toned at 135.

Cyborg on the other hand is ripped albeit with PEDs most likely...and is toit like a tiger. I've seen her workouts and it's unbelievable man. Anyways it took me a year to gain 10lbs of lean muscle even though she'll be cutting "water weight" she will no doubt lose muscle mass and thus her single most important advantage...her strength and stamina. If I lost 10lbs it would be pretty significant since I have low bad fat and I think she mentioned she has 8%. Anything under 10% is phenemonal...Bruce Lee esque.
