Why do some people say steroids make a fighter worse?

Why do people always say this? it makes you stronger, faster, and bigger.

and if it does make you less of a fighter than why is it banned? IF Overeem was a better fighter without the stuff than why is he banned? It doesn't make sense to ban something if it isn't going to help in a fight.

It's mental, the fighter takes roids cuz he feels weaker than his opponents otherwise he wouldn't need them.

I dim if this is exactly what you are talking about but I know steroids are hard on your body and to keep the strength boost you have to say on steroids one you go off you lose that power and your body pays for all that abuse.

Case in point Ken shamrock. Ken use to be a monster on stroids as every one was in the early uFC days and in the WWF now he is borderline fragile with bad knees and a glass jaw because his body is shot from all the steroids. It may help fighters in the short run but they pay for it in the long run.

I also know Randy was not a fan of big musscles because the sucked up a lot of energy.

I don't think the general consensus is that they make a fighter worse but the two above arguments are definitely valid but not universal. It can affect longevity but this also depends on a range of other things, training, supp regiment, knowledge of proper cycling, etc. Also the second that adding muscle mass won't instantly make you a better fighter as it comes with trade-offs such as cardio and speed.

There are also other trade offs like the emotional roller coasters. Then there's what else it does to your body like reproductive issues. The fact of the matter is that it enhances performances which is wrong.

Steroids aren't only used for gaining muscle mass either. It aids in recovery and just the ability to train longer, harder and more often than you normally would.

I should note that steroids are used by doctors for certain medical conditions. If it is used for anything other then that then it's abusing them. Steroid abuse is illegal and if it's used for sports then it's abuse.
