Round 1 - Mark Carter is the ref for this one, and 30 seconds in, Smith works hard for a takedown and gets it. As Kennedy tries to scramble out, he keeps him on the canvas. But Kennedy gets to the fence, where he'll look to walk back up. He does, and Smith tries to land inside. He keeps Kennedy bullied on the wall, and Kennedy lands a good knee, then finally maneuvers his way out and gets back to the center. Smith lands an outside leg kick, but Kennedy looks right at him and drills a right uppercut. He tries to return with a second one, but misses and Smith again gets the fight to the floor. He can't keep it there as long this time, and Kennedy reverses and looks to put on some pressure of his own. Kennedy looks to engage back on the feet, and he lands a big kick to the body. But as they clinch up, Smith lands with a low knee and Kennedy drops down in pain from the shot in the mommy-daddy parts. After a brief break, Kennedy looks to do some damage inside. And he does. A few solid strikes and knees have Smith on shaky ground as things tick down. It was a bit of a shift in Kennedy's favor late, and will give him a close 10-9 round.

Round 2 - Smith looks for a takedown, and Kennedy tries to defend with knees, but Smith gets things down for a moment. Kennedy ties him up in the clinch and tries to reverse position on the fence. Finally, he gets the fight down and goes to work in half-guard looking to pass. Kennedy briefly has a pass to mount, but it's right back to half-guard. As Smith tries to work out, Kennedy takes his back for a moment. Smith tries to reverse out, but Kennedy works some nice shots to the body down on the ground. Smith tries to explode out, but Kennedy is doing a good job of keeping him neutralized. Kennedy appears to be working for body shots on the ground, but Carter has seen enough and stands them up. Smith tries for a takedown, but it's Kennedy again in control punching the body. Smith lands a good elbow with 30 seconds left as he tries to work his way back to the feet. He does, with 10 seconds left, but Kennedy sits him back down. It's another 10-9 round on the card.

Round 3 - Kennedy ties things up on the fence and looks for elbows over the top as Smith pushes him against the fence. They break and Kennedy stands in the center and blocks a high Smith kick. Greg Jackson in Kennedy's corner is calling for more activity from him, and as Smith comes in again looking to go to the ground, Kennedy lands a solid knee. Smith wants a single, but Kennedy grabs his neck and squeezes like crazy. It's a neck crank and then it turns into just an absolutely nasty guillotine choke that forces Smith to tap. Came almost out of nowhere. Tim Kennedy def. Trevor Smith via submission (guillotine choke) - Round 3, 1:36
