AUGUST 19, 2013
Regional and International Scraps this weekend

This is the first down week of major MMA in almost a month. However, that doesn’t mean there still aren’t significant MMA events going on around the world. If there’s anything I believe MMA Uncensored Live did correctly it was their minute long segment they entitled, “Around the World of MMA,” in which they’d cover the results of events taking place in the previous week, and previewing upcoming events as well. So without further introduction, here is what’s going on this weekend:

Tachi Palace Fights 16: Martinez vs. Giagos

At it’s return to it’s home base on August 22, TPF is putting on a main event lightweight bash between Poppies Martinez and Christos Giagos. Also featured on the card are two scraps featuring vets as former TPF Featherweight Champ Isaac DeJesus and former Bellator Featherweight Champ Joe Soto look to take on opponents Darren Crisp and Bernard Turner respectively.

It’ll be interesting to see how both men continue to reinvent themselves in their new weight classes as Soto is going down in weight to bantamweight and DeJesus is going up in weight after failing to make 145 at his last title defense and being subsequently stripped of his featherweight title. Other bouts include:

Featherweight bout: Art Arciniega vs. Marcello Cassero

Bantamweight bout: Rolando Velasco vs. Sergio Cortez

Featherweight bout: Sergio Quinones vs. Alexander Crispim

Middleweight bout: Phil Collins vs. Tramain Smith

Lightweight bout: Cain Carrizosa vs. Cody Orrison

Flyweight bout: Jimmy Grant vs. Anthony Figueroa

Heavyweight bout: C.J. Leveque vs. Manuel Quezada

Legacy Fighting Championships 22

In a heavyweight clash of UFC vets on August 23, Paul Buentello takes on Brit James McSweeney as Texas promotion Legacy FC continues to rise as a regional powerhouse. Also on the card are scraps between Artenas Young vs. Eric Davila and Damacio Page takes on a yet as unnamed opponent.

Ranik Ultimate Fighting Federation 10

At the tenth event on August 24 of China’s national MMA promotion, RUFF Featherweight Champ Wang Guan, Lightweight Champ Rodrigo Caporal, and Flyweight Champ Meixuan all return to war looking to defend their belts against Sandro Da Silva, Resul Khairulaev, and Ya Fei respectively. Other fights on the card include:

Lv Zhenhong vs. Hanjie

You should do a write up for Bamma!

Marcus Aurelius: Tell me again, Maximus, why are we here?
Maximus: For the glory of the Empire, sire.

Baked, not fried... the healthy choice.
