More terrible news about the Pride promotion to go along with their 2 weight division champ Henderson going to the UFC and Shogun going too.

gerweck.net said:It has been confirmed this afternoon that PRIDE FC's 2007 Lightweight
Grand Prix, scheduled to start in the early part of July, has been
canceled. As of this report it is unclear whether the entire Grand Prix
has been nixed or if it is only the first round, Total Elimination 2007.
For those who purchased tickets to the event(s), refunds will be made
available as an exchange for a later date seems unlikely. This is the
latest set back for what once was the premiere Mixed Martial Arts
promotion on the planet. Stay tuned to Gerweck.net for the very latest on

I agree. I have that feeling of being stabbed in the back.WouldLuv2FightU said:Wow this is just getting ridiculous. I feel like an idiot for trusting the Fertitta's in their promise to revive PRIDE. They did it for the UFC so I thought they would do it for PRIDE as well....guess I'm starting to see the truth now.
Kameleon said:That sucks. Seems that Lorenzo and company aren't even going to try and revive Pride FC.
well can't you be wrong for once? i keep my hopes up only to have them crushed. I just read another article on Gerwick that read:jdun11 said:I told you guys. Pride will not have another event!!
now if this is true and it was just a handshake so that Pride could be vulterized and couldn't find a different deal to survive, what a sleazy tactic.Gerweck said:Tokyo Sports recently said that the deal that would allow the sale of PRIDE FC from Dream Stage Entertainment to Zuffa was originally just a hand shake agreement and that rumors of Zuffa pulling out have been
spreading through out Japan. No factual evidence, however, has yet been provided that even remotely suggest the deal was just a handshake agreement. It is also being reported that the date for transfer from DSE to the new PRIDE FC Worldwide was not May 1st but, rather, May 2nd. Rumors have the deal between the two being held off until after Ed Fishman either settles his suit with DSE, wins, or loses.
The most interesting piece of news that Tokyo Sports has reported lately is that the "asset sale transfer" negotiations are still ongoing. On top of that, someone has been twisting the ear of the Japanese fans, telling them that the first show of "shinsei", or Newborn, PRIDE Fighting
Championships would run in August, in Japan, at an un-named venue in Tokyo. Dana White has hinted that the first Zuffa run PRIDE FC show would be in the US. And last month news broke that preliminary plans were in motion to run a PRIDE event in June in California. Those plans have since fallen through and the first show of the Newborn PRIDE FC won't happen until at least after July, the most recent reports suggest. For those who are unaware, the organization has canceled it's 2007 Lightweight Grand Prix for the time being. It may, in fact, be canceled for good. The event
was set to kick off on July 18 at the Saitama Super Arena with the first round of fights. Refunds are being offered as there are no immediate plans to reschedule the event to a later date.
Dan Henderson moving to the UFC exclusively with the PRIDE Light Heavyweight and Middleweight Championships is a unique contradiction to what Dana White has said in the past. Logic would suggest that if Henderson is still considered the Champion of those two weight classes in PRIDE, then he must be under contract to PRIDE exclusively or else relinquish the straps. Him being the duel Champion makes him a PRIDE
fighter. I thought "PRIDE fighters will stay PRIDE fighters, UFC fighters wil stay UFC fighters"? At least that's what Dana White has said. It seems now that the UFC is more apt to fold PRIDE FC into the UFC rather than run the promotion on it's own. PRIDE fans at least get a PRIDE fight on a UFC
card when Jackson and Henderson clash for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
