Carlos Newton didn't become champ until 3 years after Henderson beat him. Henderson had 2 fights in the UFC then left.

It was in the old days of UFC when they had tournaments during the events. He won the middleweight tournament and did beat Carlos Newton to do it. It was UFC 17.

UFC 17 was an awesome show, by the way. Seriously, Williams kicking Coleman's head off, Newton outclassing Gilstrap, Tank kickin' a lil ass, Newton & Hendo going to war, and Shamrock & Horn having an extremely technical fight.

UFC 17 was one of my favorite UFC of all time and Williams kick is one of the best things to ever happen in the octagon Coleman is such a roided out prick. Plus Franky winning any fight makes any event good for me.

I actually thought Carlos Newton should've won the decision against Henderson. I mean, he landed better strikes, and rocked Hendo a couple of times. Henderson was not quite the fighter he would become, and spent much of the time just laying on Newton, not doing a damn thing.
Sort of sucks to see Dan just up and leave the UFC, because I'm pretty sure they would've ran Frank vs Hendo (I am aware of their Contenders match, and yes, Frank was all swank in that).

Frank vs Henderson in UFC would have been sweet. But their contenders match is one of my Shamrock favorite moments he beat him so fast and Hendo's scream was priceless what a nasty heel hook.
And as for Henderson layin on top of Newton and not doing anything. Unfortantly that was early UFC wrestlers taking people down adn holding them there.

I can't really blame Dan, though. He did have a tough fight with Goes that same night, while Newton beat his opponent with ease. Dan was up for a good scrap in some parts, and there were some swank slams done by both men. Yeah, that fight ruled. Too bad that Judo Gene was the only judge with a brain.

Dan Henderson will get po3ned by atleast half of the light heavyweights in the UFC. He is extermely overrated. He had a luck KO against Wandy, and now everyone thinks he's Fedor or something.
