Kron Gracie Negotiating His MMA Debut In Japan For August : ‘I’m Here To Show That Ji

Quote:
Kron Gracie last year after winnning ADCC, had expressed his desire to leave the competitive Jiu-Jitsu to “venture” in MMA . And little by little, his dream is becoming a reality. He is negotiating to make his debut in mixed martial arts in August in Japan, the country where his father, Rickson, collected epic victories.

Kron talked to Brazil’s tatame magazine. He declined to reveal the name of the organization with which he is negotiating his debut.

“Everything is on track. God willing, it will happen. Japan is willing to offer more possibilities and is a more beautiful place to fight. In the United States, the MMA scene is against Jiu-Jitsu. They don’t leave you much time to fight on the ground, the crowd begins to boo … At the moment, I want to gain experience, and Japan would be the best option for my start in the sport. I’m not ruling out fighting elsewhere too. I am open to offers. “

In the hiatus between January and August, Kron will take the time to improve his striking.

“I’m not thinking too much about fighting Jiu-Jitsu. I’ll devote more time to MMA. My mind is focused on that. I want to prepare well. “

Kron won the 2013 ADCC
Kron won the 2013 ADCC

Based in California, Kron, whose MMA training is led by Cesar Gracie, is thrilled to represent the family and to reaffirm the supremacy of Jiu-Jitsu in MMA:

“MMA is a lot harder than Boxing, more complex sport. Of course you can get hurt more seriously if cut, take a knockout … But the pain itself is not much bigger. It’s something you get used to. You will learn how to fight. I’m loving training MMA and being in this fight vibe. I’m very motivated to fight and to face the guys who do not believe that Jiu-Jitsu can win in MMA. I’m here to show that Jiu-Jitsu is still the best martial art. “

He'll have success following in the footsteps of R. Gracie, Almeida, Maia, Drysdale and Werdum. All of em have done extremely well and are highly decorated. Nobody wants to grapple with them so it only leaves the option of striking or them getting taken down.

Out of all BF's fight Werdum is the only one where he declined to go into his guard.

On the flip side Roger and Rolls haven't done too well namely due to their cardio.

A lot of people will be watching intently.

Their jiu jitsu games were also not equipped for MMA, a lot of it was Gi based and didn't account for punching. Kron's game is very basic and very old school, where it's about defending yourself and attacking not pulling inverted guard or 50/50. Plus he's working with the Diaz bros and Caesar Graice so his cardio won't be lacking and hasn't ever shown to be lacking in his jiu jitsu career, Roger got tired in most of his matches that were actually competitive.

Rolls is something like 35 and Roger is over 30 as well. They both waited way too long, not to mention were never submission hunters, they waited it out and played a more relaxed game which doesn't work in MMA. Kron doesn't give a shit about points and just attacks guys from the start, which will translate well to MMA. He's also only 26.

My only concern will be if he tries to fight at WW, he needs to be at LW at least, and could probably make it down to FW if he wanted to cut weight seriously. He'd be a beast at 145, you're talking about a guy that made Aoki look bad on the mat, a place every MMA fighter avoids against Aoki and Kron pulled guard on him and subbed him.

Wont matter as long as his goal is to prove BJJ supremecy he will fail like every Gracie since Royce. The game has changed and no aspect will reign supreme you need to become well rounded and no Gracie ever has put in the time.

He'll win, but to be champ yes he will need a well rounded game. Based on his performance and his attacking style as Life mentioned he's a finisher. He definitely belongs in the featherweight and LW division.

Also he's got one of the greatest coaches in the world. Can you imagine the lessons he gets from his father.

a semi decent wrestler with good submission defence will probably beat him.

It shouldn't take him that long to get to a Maia-like striking level. What he primarily has to work on is an aggressive TD-approach. Be it Sonnen-like doubles, Maia-octopussing or Rousey-like throws. People will not stick out there arms like in BJJ no-gi tournaments.

Renzo did. In my opinion he was/is a very well rounded fighter. He was limited by his athletic ability and then age.

If anything people stick their arms out way more in mma. Throwing strikes and GnP while not even close to the same as bjj tourneys makes things much easier to open up if you can properly deal with the strikes which is what most guys who do sport bjj their whole career have a hard time with. Which is what I meant about Krons game being very basic and more easily adapted to bjj than other gracies.or say the mendes brothers.
