1)
Pietro Menga – 10-0-0 - English – 25 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 16-17, Last Fought: Jun ‘13
25 year old Pietro Menga posted a 5-1 amateur record and has won all 10 fights since turning pro in 2011, finishing all but one of them (7 submissions & 2 TKO’s), including 19, 35 and 40 second victories. A well rounded fighter, Menga has competed in several grappling competitions (including winning gold at British No Gi Open) and also has pro Muay Thai fights under his belt. He is the FCC flyweight champion and among his wins include experienced fighters Artem Sitenkov (14-9), Steve McCombe (15-17) and Mark Platts (10-8). He is an extremely big flyweight and spent the beginning of his career fighting as a bantamweight.

Joby Sanchez – 5-0-0 - American – 22 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 10-7, Last Fought: Sep ‘13
Joby Sanchez owns one of the best martial arts backgrounds on this list – he was a silver gloves champion boxer, held a 32-3 amateur boxing record, is a black belt in kajukembo karate, and was a high school runner-up in wrestling. Sanchez held an impressive 9-2 amateur record and he has gone a perfect 5-0 since turning pro in 2011. In 2012 he was the XFC open tryouts winner and has since won 2 fights for the promotion, beating Eric Moell (3-1) in his most recent fight. Of his 5 pro victories he has finished all of them, with 3 submissions and 2 TKO’s.

Ray Borg – 5-0-0 - American – 20 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 14-5, Last Fought: Nov ‘13
At just 20 years old Ray Borg is one of the youngest fighters on this year’s flyweight list. He has an excellent year long amateur career during which he fought for the KOTC promotion and won every fight via 1st round submission. Since turning pro late in 2012 he has carried on in the same way, winning all 5 of his fights, including 4 stoppages (3 submissions & a TKO). In his most recent couple of fights he has taken a big step up in competition, beating experienced opponents in Angelo Sanchez (12-4) and Jeimson Saudino (7-1).

Roland Sangcha’an – 4-0-0 - Filipino – 23 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 9-1, Last Fought: Sep ‘13
One of just 3 fighters from the Philippines on the 2014 list, Roland Sangcha’an has fought for a variety of promotions in Asia including URCC and PXC. He trains out of the famous Team Lakay, one of the top camps in Asia, where his training partners include Eduard Folayang, Kevin Belingon, Roy Docyogen and Honorio Banario. He put his name on the map late in 2012 where he knocked out top European prospect and the previously unbeaten Aslan Toktarbaev (4-0). The 23 year old has finished each of his fights with 2 TKO’s and 2 submissions and he also holds a win over Adam Cacay (3-1).

Takashi Soya – 5-0-0 - Japanese – 19 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 11-3, Last Fought: Dec ‘13
The first of five Japanese flyweights on the 2014 list, Takashi Soya is also the youngest on this year’s list at just 19 years old. He has a great stand up game which helped him to finish 4 of his 5 wins via 1st round TKO. He has for a variety of promotions since making his debut in 2012, such as DEEP and Grabaka, but in 2013 he signed for Shooto and entered their 2013 Rookie Tournament. He won the flyweight tournament to be crowned the 2013 rookie champion. On his way to the title he beat Ryuya Fukuda (4-1), Takaaki Ito (3-1) and Haruki Nakayama (3-3).

Kairat Akhmetov – 6-0-0 - Kazakhstani – 26 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 6-1, Last Fought: Dec ‘13
The only fighter from Kazakhstan on the entire 2014 list, Kairat Akhmetov is a Greco roman wrestling champion in his homeland of Kazakhstan. The 25 year old finished each of his first 4 fights in the very first round with 3 submissions wins and 1 TKO win and has gone to a decision in his most recent 2 fights. After fighting a poor level of opposition in his first 5 fights, he took a huge step up in competition in December when he halted the 5 fight win streak of Tatsuya Watanabe (14-4). There is rumors that unofficially he is 21-0, however his official record stands at 6-0.

Geane Herrera – 5-0-0 - American – 23 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 13-2, Last Fought: Jul ‘13
American fighter Herrera is a relatively newcomer to the sport, only starting MMA a few years ago. Now 23, he has 5 pro fights under his belt and in 2012 became the Bantamweight champion of regional promotion RFC, which he won by submitting the previously unbeaten Jared Crawford (4-0) in less than 3 minutes. For his most recent fight the 5’5” fighter dropped down to flyweight where he had a successful debut, beating Mitchell Chamale (4-1). He has finished 3 of his 5 fights via 1st round submission.

Ryo Hatta – 6-0-0 - Japanese – ?? Years Old - Opponent W/L: 13-12, Last Fought: Jul ‘13
Japanese fighter Ryo Hatta has won each of his first 6 fights at flyweight. Fighting for the Japanese ZST promotion, Hatta has been keeping busy, fighting 5 times in the last 18 months. He is a submission specialist and has finished 5 of his 6 fights by 5 different submissions, including a heel hook and leg scissor choke. Hatta holds wins over Yusuke Uehara (7-5), Satoshi Ishimori (4-3) and Fumitaka Izuka (3-2).

Elias Garcia – 4-0-0 - American – 27 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 5-1, Last Fought: May ‘13
American flyweight Elias Garcia is nicknamed ‘Smash’ and had an extensive amateur career before turning pro where he went 6-2 and was the champion of 2 different promotions. He has fought as high as featherweight in his career but has recently dropped to his natural weight of 125 pounds. He has fought regularly since making his debut just over a year ago, winning all 4 times and finishing 2 of them inside the distance. Last year he signed for top regional promotion Legacy FC and beat Matt Schnell (2-0). He is scheduled to fight top prospect Henry Cejudo at the end of the month.

Chris Miah – 5-0-0 - English – 22 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 6-6, Last Fought: Nov ‘13
English fighter Chris Miah is a former bantamweight, having only fought his last 2 fights at flyweight and is a huge 125 pounder at 5’8” tall. He won the FUK Flyweight title in 2012 when he submitted Mark Handley (3-5) in just 56 seconds and made the first defence of his title in November last year when he TKO’d Josh Foster (3-1) in the first round. At 22 years old he is a young flyweight and has finished 4 of his 5 fights (3 submissions & 1 TKO). The Britis a jiu-jitsu specialist and also held an unbeaten 5-0-1 record as an amateur.

Robson Souza Dos Santos – 6-0-0 - Brazilian – 26 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 8-7, Last Fought: Apr ‘13
Dos Santos is a big flyweight at 5’7” and was scheduled to fight for the Jungle fight flyweight title in July last year. However he missed weight and was subsequently banned by the Jungle Fight promotion, so a move up to bantamweight seems likely in the future. He made his debut back in 2006 as an 18 year old, however subsequently spent 6 years away from the sport. He returned in 2012 and has since fought three times, beating Wagner Noronha (8-4), Sergio Da Silva (5-5) and Jean Dias (4-5). He has finished all 6 of his fights (3 submissions and 3 TKO’s), with 5 coming in the very first round.

Bentley Syler – 5-0-0 - American– 31 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 3-2, Last Fought: Dec ‘13
American fighter Bentley Syler has spent much of his life in Bolivia, but moved back to USA a few years ago and has set up camp at the reputable American Top Team, where his training partners include UFC fighters Robbie Lawler, Hector Lombard and Jorge Masvidal. He fought in South America twice in 2010, but took 3 years off due to relocation and injuries. Since making his return to MMA he has won 3 fights in 2013 including a win over Wascar Cruz (5-2) for the CFA promotion. He has finished 4 of his 5 fights (2 TKO’s & 2 submissions), with 3 of these wins coming in the very first round.

Alexandre Texugo Ribeiro – 5-0-0 - Brazilian – ?? Years Old - Opponent W/L: 6-2, Last Fought: Jun ‘13
Brazilian fighter Alexandre Ribeiro is an excellent jiu-jitsu fighter and since making his flyweight debut in 2010 he has gone a perfect 5-0. He has fought sporadically so far in his career, fighting just 5 times in three and a half years, but has blasted through each opponent finishing every fight, with 3 submission wins and 2 TKO’s. Among his wins include Giliarde Lima (3-1) and Robson Oliveira (2-0).

Hidenobu Izena – 6-0-1 - Japanese – ?? Years Old - Opponent W/L: 8-12, Last Fought: Apr ‘13
After starting off his career in 2010 with a draw, Izena has since rattled off 6 straight wins. All but one of his 6 victories has been finishes, with 3 Submissions and 2 TKO’s. Izena fights for Rising On Fighting Championships, a regional promotion in Japan, and in 2011 he won their 4-man Flyweight tournament by beating Shota Watanabe (3-6) and Yoshiteru Ueda (2-1).

Alan Gomes De Castro – 5-0-1 - Brazilian – 19 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 7-3, Last Fought: Oct ‘13
At just 19 years old Alan De Castro is the youngest fighter on this year’s flyweight list alongside #5 ranked Takeshi Soya. He made his debut in 2012 as an 18 year old and has since put together an unbeaten 5-0-1 record. After comfortably winning his first 4 fights he has found it harder recently with a draw in April last year and a close split decision victory over Reynaldo Duarte (8-6) in his most recent fight in August.

Yoshitaka Naito – 5-0-0 - Japanese – ?? Years Old - Opponent W/L: 11-7, Last Fought: Nov ‘13
Japanese fighter Yoshitaka Naito is primarily a straw weight fighter but has fought at flyweight in the past, and if he wants a move to a large promotion in North America he may have to move back to 125 pounds for good. Since making his debut in 2012 he has won each of his 5 fights, finishing his first 3 inside the distance and going to a decision in his most recent 2 fights. He fights for the Shooto promotion and has fought an extremely solid level of opposition, with wins over Tadaaki Yamamoto (9-3), Atsushi Takeuchi (7-9) and Takafumi Ato (5-3).

Fernando Luiz Silva – 5-0-0 - Brazilian – 26 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 3-1, Last Fought: Oct ‘13
26 year old Brazilian Fernando Luiz Silva has done well since making his MMA debut in 2011, winning all 5 professional fights. Of his 5 victories, 3 of them have been finishes with 2 decisions wins. Nicknamed ‘Fernandinho Predador’ he has fought for a variety of different regional promotions and trains at Hikari, an up and coming camp in Brazil. His best win is over Cleiton Oliveira (2-1).

An English fighter of Iranian descent, ‘Persian Pride’ Mahmood Besharate fights for BAMMA, arguably England’s top promotion. He made his amateur debut in 2009 and finished with an unbeaten 3-0 record. Since turning pro in 2011 he has won all 5 fights, signing with the BAMMA promotion last year and has gone 2-0 for them with wins over Joe Laurence (4-5) and Steven Gardener (2-3). He is a big flyweight having previously fought at bantamweight, and after starting his career with 2 stoppage victories he has gone to a decision in his last 3 fights.

Rafael Nunes – 4-0-0 - Brazilian – ?? Years Old - Opponent W/L: 9-3, Last Fought: Dec ‘13
One of 6 Brazilian’s on this year’s flyweight list, Rafael Nunes has beaten some solid fighters en route to his perfect 4-0 record. Among his wins so far include Arinaldo Da Silva (4-3), Diego Paiva (3-1) and Paulo Oliveira (2-1). He trains out of Bronx’s Gold Team, a regional camp in Brazil, and fights for the Jungle Fight promotion. He has finished each of his 4 wins, with 3 wins by submission and the other by TKO.

Brett Caswell – 4-0-0 - English – 27 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 2-5, Last Fought: Nov ‘13
The third and final English fighter on the Flyweight list, Brett Caswell roared through his amateur career going a perfect 3-0 with 3 first round submission wins. Since turning pro last year he has found it tougher but has still put together a 4-0 record, winning his most recent fight by TKO after going to a decision in his first 3 wins. Last year he signed for the CWFC promotion and won in his first fight for them in September.

Hayato Suzuki – 5-0-2 - Japanese – 27 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 6-7, Last Fought: Dec ‘13
The 5th and final Japanese fighter on this year’s flyweight list is 27 year old Hayato Suzuki. He has fought for both the DEEP and Brave promotions in Japan, where he has put together an unbeaten 5-0 record with 2 draws. He has been active since making his debut late in 2012, fighting 7 times in 15 months, including 5 fights in 2013 alone. He has finished 4 of his 5 wins, including a submission win over Tatsuhito Satsuma (5-4) in his most recent fight in December.

Sok Veasna – 4-0-0 - Cambodian – ?? Years Old - Opponent W/L: 2-2, Last Fought: Jul ‘13
One of 2 fighters from Cambodia on the 2014 list (the other being #30 ranked bantamweight Kong Dina), Veasna is the poster boy of MMA in his home country. He fights for the Cambodian CTN Promotions and all 4 of his fights came in a 3 month period between May and July last year. He has excellent stand up and has won his most recent 3 fights via 1st round TKO. However the down side to his record is that his 4 opponents have just one win between them.

Gianni Subba – 3-0-0 - Malaysian – 21 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 3-1, Last Fought: Nov ‘13
The only fighter from Malaysia on this year’s entire 30 man list is 21 year old Gianni Subba. He trains at Phuket Top Team, one of the top camps in Asia, where his training partners include Bellator veteran JJ Ambrose and One FC fighters Andrew Leone & Adam Kayoom. He fights for top Asian promotion One FC and is one of the few fighters to have fought his entire career for them. The 21 year old has gone a perfect 3-0 since making his debut in 2012, finishing each fight inside the distance, including a soccer kicks knock out of Bruce Loh (2-1) in his debut.

Marcus Paulo Amaral – 3-0-0 - Brazilian – 20 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 4-1, Last Fought: Dec ‘13
One of the youngest fighters on this year’s flyweight list at 20 years old is Marcus Amaral. He is a small flyweight and has actually fought as low as 115 pounds before, however as he gets older he should become a solidly built flyweight. He has fought 3 times on the regional circuits of Brazil since making his debut at the beginning of 2013 and in his most recent fight in December he gained an extremely solid decision win over Joao Da Costa De Jesus (5-1).

Francisco Carlos Pezzi Malicheski – 4-0-0 - Brazilian – 25 Years Old - Opponent W/L: 1-0, Last Fought: Nov ‘13
Francisco Malicheski is a 25 year old flyweight who has been fighting on the regional circuits in Brazil. He made his debut in 2011 and has fought 4 times in the last 2 years, winning each of them. He fights for the WOCS promotion and is a small flyweight at 5’3” and has even fought as low as 118 pounds in Brazil. Malicheski has not fought a great level of opposition so far and one of his wins includes a disqualification victory.
