Question about Cro Cop vs. Mark Hunt (PrideFC Shockwave 05)
In this fight, why did Mirko wear shoes? Was it simply an attempt to add more power to his kicks or what?

I read in a bunch of places that prior to the bout he hurt his foot, so he wore the shoes to kind of mask his injury. Thats probably why he never wore them again.
although i dont get why he would kick a cynder block for 15 mins if his foot was injured.
If it was for power I think he would have done it a long time ago.

He didn't wear shoes in the second Randleman fight.
I've always figured that he knew he'd be doing a lot of kicking, since Hunt doesn't like to take things to the ground (And is tough to hurt standup wise). Of course, the injury ordeal makes sense, as well.

I think the shoes may have served as a warning to Mark that he might be taking him down and pounding him. Thats other than the fact that his foot was hurt. I dunno...

Shoes don't add more "power" to a kick

To expand on the injury thing:
Heres a hypothesis,
Mirko prob had his foot wrapped but wore the shoes over it to hide it so that Hunt or anyone else wouldnt use it against him, and also because it softens the blow on the foot when you kick something (especialy as hard as Hunts head)

I think thats exactly it... There both kickboxers but mirko has more expeirience in mma so I think he was just making sure hunt didnt forget about the takedown. Plus they worked pretty good for that ax kick he threw to hunts face.
