KANG CLOSE TO BODOGFIGHT DEAL
American Top Team Middleweight May Sign Soon
By Brian Knapp
The American Top Team’s Denis Kang is in serious negotiations with bodogFIGHT and could sign with the upstart promotion as early as this week, a source close to the ATT indicated.
Kang (27-8-1), one of the world’s top middleweights, is 20-1-1 in his past 22 fights, the lone defeat a split decision loss to Kazuo Misaki in the finals of the PRIDE Welterweight Grand Prix at PRIDE “Bushido 13.” Kang reportedly tore a biceps muscle in the semi-finals but agreed to fight anyway.
Kang successfully defended his Spirit Martial Challenge middleweight championship with a unanimous decision victory over Junggyu Cho March 11 in South Korea. The bout left Kang with a broken hand, and he has been out of action ever since.
A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Marcus Soares, the 29-year-old owns victories over Amar Suloev, Murilo Rua and Akihiro Gono, among others, during an illustrious career that began in 1998. His stunning 15-second KO of Rua highlighted PRIDE “Bushido 11” and was part of an amazing 20-fight unbeaten streak.
