Please only answer if you watched both fights. Anyone that did knows they were both very entertaining fights. Which one sticks out more in your mind as higher on the FOTY list? Not saying you have to think it's FOTY but which one is closer to it?

Hard question to answer.

Lawler vs Hendricks had higher peaks and strong emotion, Straus vs Curran was the better overall MMA fight. I go with the Featherweights, the better ending just puts it over the top for me.

Right now I think these two fights are clearly the best two fights of the year thus far. Not as high up but in similar fashion to Hendo vs Shogun and Chandler vs Alvarez both going down the same weekend in 2011 for the two promotions.

I like MMA less because of this forum

Yeah I think they are both FOTY candidates. I would agree the ending to Curran-Straus probably puts it over the edge. It was a close fight but Curran was down on the cards and finished it in the final 30 seconds. The peak being at the end of the fight gives it a boost for me.

Knowing the outcome would drastically reduce the entertainment value.

I thought it was okay, but I really didn't think it was anything special. Something about the ending seemed off to me.

I don't understand? What in the world about that ending seemed off? Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like you are suggesting a fix?

I'm not suggesting a fix, I'm just saying that the way Strauss just kind of gave up his neck at the very end and gave the worst possibly timed thumbs up ever bothers me. What the hell was he doing? Curran was about an inch from having that choke sunk in with very little time left and Straus decides its time to give the ref a thumbs up. It pissed me off when I watched it. Curran not being able to pull the trigger in the stand up also bugged the shit out of me. It was a frustrating fight to watch and it ended in a silly way.

It was a great ending but it was the third best fight of the weekend. The rounds Pat Curran won were great the rounds Straus won where fast-forwardable. Don't confuse a great ending with a great fight.

1. Hendricks/Lawler
2. Gastelum/Story
3. Curran/Straus
4. Andrade/Pennington
5. Garcia/Spencer

I didn't think any of the rounds were boring and I thought both Straus and Curran were entertaining for the majority of the fight. There was plenty of action, they both did damage. The both knew from experience they needed to be smart. I thought it was a skilled and entertaining fight capped off by a great ending. The pace didn't really fall off like it did in the Robbie-Hendricks fight.
