Legislation Passes in Illinois

The Illinois General Assembly passed a legislation Wednesday to legalize and regulate mixed martial arts in Illinois, reports the Chicago Tribune.

To finalize the measure, Governor Rod Blagojevich will need to the sign the bill into law.

Expect the UFC to promote an event in Chicago as soon as MMA is officially regulated in Illinois, which appears to be early 2008.

Local MMA events are currently being held in Illinois via state-approved waivers.

This is definatly a good thing for the sport in general, more venues to hold MMA events means the sport will be more mainstream. Get ready Illinois and Canada when the UFC comes to your neck of the woods.

doesnt benefit me but definately good news for the UFC getting in the 3rd largest US market is a huge step

Awesome!!!! i was just looking at the rule sets in Illinois the other day, and one glaring thing was a rule of "No elbow or forearm strikes of any kind." and i thought well that rules out any UFC venues here... I did figure it would change eventually. every Dec here theres a Shudokan Tournament (3 rounds 1st is bare knuckle karate, 2nd is kickboxing with padded gloves, 3rd puts the small MMA gloves on and while standing its a striking allowed, but once a persons knee touches the ground it's grappling only since illinois had no GnP rule), and this last december Illinois allowed Nevada rules except the elbows, and allowed GnP. so i knew changes were comming, just not this quick!!!



I cant wait!! we got an IFL Team here, and UFC may be comming shortly!!!


and yes AA trains in Northbrook and Downtown Chicago, ovation for him would be absolutly HUGE!!!!
