Once again it is Latin American Heritage month when in America this month is taken to celebrate the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the culture. As is traditional at MMA Freak, this special list is to recognize the most successful Hispanic fighters of the past year in terms of total fights in the year. With that here they are:

10) Fernando Gonzalez

Fernando Gonzalez fought twice this last year and though he got two wins, one of them had a positive drug test.

9) Steve Garcia

While he only fought once this year, Steve Garcia did win under the Bellator banner against Eduardo Bustillos.

8) Alex Garcia

Alex Garcia became the last man to fight Mike Swick at UFC 189 and won against him in a unanimous decision.

7) Eddie Alvarez

In the UFC’s second trip to Mexico, Eddie Alvarez fought Gilbert Melendez to a tough split decision at UFC 188. He is now set to face Anthony Pettis at UFC Fight Night: Dillashaw vs. Cruz on January 17th in Massachusetts.

6) Yoel Romero

Yoel Romero surprised everyone by knockout out Lyoto Machida at UFC Fight Night: Romero vs. Machida. The Cuban fighter is now scheduled to face Ronaldo Souza at UFC 194 in on December 12th for a third time.

5) Carlos Condit

After a successful return against Thiago Alves this year, Carlos Condit is set to face Robbie Lawler at UFC 195. It was nice to see Condit back in the Octagon, especially after the nasty knee injury he sustained at UFC 171.

4) Alexa Grasso

Alexa Grasso is the only woman on this list, having defeated both Alida Gray and Mizuki Inoue this last year. The second fight was rather significant because it was before a largely pro-Hispanic crowd at Invicta FC 11 in Feb.

3) Efrain Escudero

The Ultimate Fighter 8 lightweight winner Efrain Escudero not only won twice this year but also coached The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 2 and will be facing Leandro Silva at the TUF Latin America 2 Finale.

2) Joseph Benavidez

Joseph Benavidez is on a three fight winning streak against Dustin Ortiz, John Moraga and Ali Bagautinov. Overall he’s on a four fight winning streak since his loss to Demetrious Johnson in December 2013.

1) Yair Rodriguez

The inaugural The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America featherweight winner kicked off his UFC career by winning the tournament at UFC 180 against Leonardo Morales. He’s since defeated Charles Rosa and Dan Hooker.
