Thinking about not watching MMA anymore.

I'm thinking about moving on from watching MMA . The UFC particularly has given me so much fine entertainment over the years, I got hooked watching UFC 79 and have watched pretty much every other show since.I love the sport but just don't feel the need to watch it. To me it's just as good hearing about how the result is played out. I swear I often enjoy the break down after the fight than the fights themselves, is a bit like a game of thrones, who is the latest bunch of casualties and successes. Feeling a bit addicted to MMA as well. Anyone else feel the same way.

I think most fans wane after a while, our lives change, we change, the sport changes, our priorities change. I've definitely taken long breaks and really it's only the big fights that get me to watch anything more than some clip footage the next day anymore, as you mentioned, much easier to simply read results.

Okay good one, so you're suggesting is a flounce because McGregor won. You are quite wrong, I view McGregor the same way I do Jesus Christ, I admire him enormously but often can't stand his followers :)

Seriously I was thinking this was going to be the last UFC I would watch but there's always one more, I'd quite like to see the Bisping Hendo but it just goes on.

I just can't stand the endless waiting in the endless drama. Take this McGregor Mayweather fight we will be hearing about that for years and years, when we are Aldo fight next, it will be months and months.

I want to get to a situation in which on Friday I checked the MMA media to see what's going on is if anything takes my fancy them basically forget about it. I do feel addicted to MMA which is why want to cut down, there are other issues as well like all my favourite fighters over the years retiring or getting beaten.

I will never tire of MMA. Certainly, im not so interested in the between-fight stuff any more. Aside from coming here and clicking the very occasional link, I dont really read any MMA news. But god damn, I *love* the fights. And I love the analysis afterwards. But most of the drama doesn't register with me. I would say the only time the drama amuses me is when people get their panties bunched up about it.

Do you think the fact there is more of it makes a difference? I feel like in the "old days" when there was about 1 event a month, the gap made people want more mma, so they checked news, posted on the forum, just to sate there hunger for it, now... with sometimes a fight a week, less need to.

Not suggesting anything, just looked through your created threads, noticed a trend... after every McGregor fight, and the opposite reaction after Nate beat him.

I agree, I think it is natural.

I first saw UFC 100 and watched Bisping get KO'd. Little did I know how historic an event and KO that would be. From that moment on I watched every event live in the UK. For a good 3-4 years I would watch every pre and post fight press conference and a lot of fighter interviews too.

Now though, I watch none of that. I have little interest in the many of the prelims and I have even stopped watching main events at 5am and now watch them in the morning.

I think for me it is a combination of over saturation. There is too much to keep up with, so you'd need to be pretty dedicated to know the sport and fighters inside out.

The larger media coverage it receives I find a little grating. I liked being a fan of a niche sport where it didn't have many casuals who spew rubbish.

And I think the repetition of the same thing over and over from both the promotion of the fights and from the fighters just devalues it a bit. Little stands out anymore.

One of the appeals of MMA is the idea that you can watch people are who good at fighting work their craft.

Sitting in a sports bar, seeing a fat, out of shape, drunk guy yelling at the screen giving better advice than the people in the fighter's corner. Literally someone completely out of shape who seems to have a better fight IQ than a person fighting in the UFC, ruins the appeal of MMA.

I've seen it happen enough to know its no fluke.

That's probably the worst thing about MMA for me.

A lot of the people involved in the training process aren't necessarily good at what they do.

And a lot of the people fighting don't have good fight IQ's.

If I ever quit paying attention to MMA that would probably be the reason(s).

Don't blame the fighters, its a lot harder to think rationally when you are in there, compared to sitting on a bar stool.

The corners... eh, a lot of them are bad, but a lot of them really know there fighters, take the much maligned (rightfully in some cases) Edmond Tarverdyan, people mock what he says to Ronda, that she is always winning, bit he knows her very well, knows what she responds well to, maybe if he tells her the truth in that corner, she has a breakdown? Goes into a shell and never comes out?

Its easy to sit back and criticize, i personally try to avoid attacking the in fight IQ of fighters and corners, you never know the true context to what they are saying.
