Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy: MMA is a Fad, Not a Sport

Boxer Jeff Lacy: "MMA is a fad, not a sport." - MMAFightLine.com

Isn't it interesting that these comments are usually made by boxers before their fights so they can draw in more viewers.

Can you say desperate for attention?

Here is the article

Jeff Lacy made some interesting" comments when asked about MMA at a press conference held to hype his upcoming fight with Peter Manfredo Jr. He'll be facing Manfredo on the under card of the Hatton-Mayweather fight. Below are some of the comments he made about MMA:
"I don't think that we really paid much attention to them. I see that as a fad, to tell you the truth. To me it's not a sport. I used to see that in my old neighborhood in the Bronx. The fact of the matter is if you look at it with all their hype and all the rest of the stuff, Oscar de la Hoya verses Mayweather itself in the aggregate grossed as much as almost all of their MMA fights of the year, one fight," Lacy said. "Now you're going to add this card that's coming up now, between the two cards, they out-grossed the entire MMA fights for the year."

"It's still not as popular as boxing. Boxing is the second most popular sport in the world, next to soccer, and MMA is just something that's come along. They've done a great job of marketing it. For people that remember it, there's nobody on the level of Oscar de la Hoya, Ray Leonard, Ali, or Jeff Lacy or any of these guys,"

"There's nobody at MMA that right off the top of your head is going to go to a Hall of Fame. They're going to either remember them or they're going to have other lives afterwards. I can't remember one guy."

I thought Judo was the second most popular sport in the world, not boxing. Am I wrong?

lmao. oh man how misinformed.

whatever, i actually enjoy it when fools in boxing think nothing of MMA. it leaves MMA as a group to gain more and more popular whileboxing is continually getting less and less popular.

We really have to stop legitimizing these bs statements by not posting them on MMA forums. Let ill-informed boxers and boxing fans stew about their misfortune in their own forums. The more we post these stupid articles up the more sites will assume we care and continue to voice the opinion of boxers who don't matter in the MMA world.

"You must first believe if you are to achieve. That rhymed... unintentionally."

MMA is definitely a sport but I think it is becoming a fad in some ways.

The only thing that I know about Jeff Lacey is that he's an ugly guy that I whoop his ass all the time on Fight Night Round 3 for Xbox 360. This guy is a douche. I mean, why attack MMA? It'd be like them saying, well NFL's not a sport. I say anything that 2 people compete at is a sport. And MMA so happens to be one of the quickest catching on sport in the world right now. F*ck this guy.
