Best Upcoming Cards

I won't hate on Joe Silva and Dana White too much. I'm looking forward to UFC 79. I'll be rooting for Wanderlei and Sokoudjou. It is, by no means the best card coming up. Looking through my secondary league on MMA Playground, I was upset to find M-1 was not being considered by the playground guys a major event, even though it will be probably be the best event of the year.

Here are my best three cards and a few notable fights coming up on them. The guys that are really going to make the card fun to watch are bolded.

1) M-1's Yarrenoka Saitama NYE Card

The Card: Pride Heavyweight ChampionFedor Emelianenko vs. Hong Man Choi
Shinya Aoki vs. K-1 lightweight champion Gesias "JZ" Calvancanti
DEEP champion Hidehiko Hasegawa vs. Hyato "Mach" Sakurai
Gilbert Melendez vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida
Kazuo "The Grabaka Hitman" Misaki vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama
Luis Azredo vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri

Also rumored: Joachim "Hellboy" Hansen, Roman Zentsov and Aleksander Emelianenko.

NOTE: Misaki and Azredo are both way behind in the odds on their fight, but both guys have enough experience that they'll make it a war either way.

2) WEC 31

WEC Middleweight champion Paulo Filho vs. Chael Sonnen
WEC Featherweight champion Urijah Faber vs. Jeff "Big Frog" Curran
WEC Lightheavyweight champion Doug "Rhino" Marshall vs. Ariel Gandulla
Jens "Little Evil" Pulver vs. Cub Swanson
Brian Bowles vs. Marcos Galvao
Brian Baker vs. Eric Schambari
John Allessio vs. Todd Moore
Alex Karalexis vs. Ed Radcliff
Ian McCall vs. Charlie Valencia

NOTE: Though the undercard is an undercard in the sense that there are no big names on it, the main card has three title fights, which is something that we haven't see in a long, long time.

3) UFC 79: Nemisis

Georges St. Pierre vs. Matt Hughes
Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva
Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou vs. Lyoto Machida
Melvin Guillard vs. Rich Clementi
Soa Palalei vs. Eddie Sanchez
James Irvin vs. Luiz Arthur Kane
Manny Gamburyan vs. Nate Mohr
Jordan Radaev vs. Dean Lister
Tony DeSouze vs. Roan Carniero
Mark Bocek vs. Doug Evans

NOTE: While the main event gives us some much anticipated fights in Liddell v Silva and a third match between St. Pierre and Hughes, even the bottom of the main card is full of stepping stones. Sokoudjou v Machida and DeSouza v Carniero look to be the most serious matches in the bunch. Otherwise, the event is being used to hype Guillard, Palalei, Irvin, Gamburyan and Lister.

Honorable Mention: WCO: Babalu vs. Tiger (aka. the nostalgia card)

Vernon "The Tiger" White vs. Renato "Babalu" Sobral
Former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez vs. Mike Kyle
Gustavo Machado vs. Joe Riggs
2X UFC tournament champion Mark Kerr vs. Rick Roofus
Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Armando Sanchez
Wesley "Cabbage" Correira vs. Jimmy "The Titan" Ambriz
Dave Gardner vs. Tiki Ghosn

Nice breakdown.

I haven't heard of this WCO card. Link to a site or anything?

I'm gonna watch the WEC card cause its free, but I'm not really pumped for it. 3 title fights should be nice but I don't really care about any of them. Also I don't really care about that WCO card aside from watching Babalu fight again. Wait... Cabbage is fighting? Seriously?? I thought he quit.. oh well I like watching him fight. Is the WCO fight card being broadcasted somehow in America?

Also not sure if you ranked those in the order you like them or not but I go:
M-1
UFC
WCO
WEC

Wanderlei Silva
Evan Tanner
Kenny Florian
Alan Belcher

No bold for Luiz Azeredo...damn, he always brings it. The WCO fight should be fun if I can find it somewhere online.

Stacked year as far as MMA is concerned. This is like my strictly MMA month, because it's filled to the brim with punchy face goodness.

The WEC card looks really, really fun. Curran vs Faber will be really interesting and I actually hope that Curran wins, though I'm going with Faber, Pulver should kill Cub, Sonnen will put Filho on his back, and Doug Marshall will provide some unintentional comedy and bum fight slugfestiness.

Sokky vs Machida & JZ vs Aoki are the big 2 fights, because Sokky vs Machida will answer a ton of questions and Aoki vs JZ will determine the number 1 P4P fighter out right now.

Didn't see a link to the WCO site on there.

As for Luis Azredo, I mentioned him in the bottom. I think the fight's going to be interesting and I'd like to see him make a war out of it. If he does, it could be an FOTY candidate.

The M1 card is going to be amazing. Ricardo Arona and Marc Hunt are also fighting on that card. One of the best cards that I have seen if a long time

Kamikaze is now 5-0. Watch his most recent fight here.

No bold for Azeredo Ironman. I mean the guy is as good as any LW out there he just has a bad chin.

I'm pretty sure Yarrenoka isn't M-1's card. I believe it is being put together mostly by Japanese orgs.

But I think that Yarrenoka is much better than UFC 79.

UFC 79 is 2nd followed by WCO and than WEC.

However I believe K-1 might still be having there own NYE card and if Dida's on it that'll be my #1.
