Thats one of the reasons that show was probably one of the biggest failures in MMA history. And Main Event dudes in the UFC end up making a lot more than 28k to win, 14k to show.

Many organizations outside of the UFC pay their fighters BIIIG bucks to show and fight, in fact alot of them do. This is mainly because they are usually either owned by really really rich dudes or just that they hope the fighter can bring them good fortune in return. This is pretty evident in organizations such as BoDog, EXC and M-1 where the owners are millionaires or billionaires and they don't have problem shelling out a couple hundred.

The Japanese also pay their fighters pretty handsomely, especially K-1, where Lesnar fought, and being a celeb that Lesnar is, its going to be a BIIG draw, so its ok for them.

In the UFC, main event guys like Chuck, Randy, Mirko and Tito make in excess of like 200K with Chuck making well into 500K. There is however, a giant gap between the Maint Event guys and the under-card fighters. The dudes in the Main card make around 28k.

Like it or not pro wrestling made a name for Lesner. That will carry him until he fights a couple top guys. Either he will make a name for himself in the UFC and continue to make top dollar or he will be on to something else.

That is over pay for his first fight. But you can't bag on the guy for getting himself a lot of money.

Most big UFC names make that or close to it a fight.
Not counting sponsorships
