Ken Shamrock's not-so-triumphant return to the cage yesterday got me checking in on some of the other early UFCers. I looked up Patrick Smith, and noticed he is 5-1 since losing to Marcus Silveira back in 1999.
And Smith's recent opponets, while not exactly top-flight guys, aren't so bad. They're certainly more credible overall than the bums Severn takes on these days.
Smith was a guy I liked back in the day. Sure, he was coming from behind in the ground fighting department. But at 43 years old he's been able to add some of those elements to his style and actually have some success against modern guys. Makes you wonder how good he could have been back in 1993, if he had already known some BJJ and wrestling.
I'll always have fond memories of him smashing the face of Scott "I'm a ninja" Morris.
Anyway, just wanted to talk about Pat Smith and what a badass dude he is for still being able to knock people out.
