Bummer!!! I was really looking forward to seeing Frye-Taktarov.......

But, Pat Smith is a solid old school guy who has been doing great in his comeback fights as well recently, so it should be a great fight...
I'm taking Oleg by ankle lock in this one...

Rumors are starting to spread that Frye pulled out of this fight because he got a better fight...in particular, one to be Kimbo's opponent on CBS...
But then, I also read a rumor that he pulled out due to injuring his moustache during training, so who knows...

Yamma Headliner Pat Smith Arrested

Don Frye (19-6-1), a headliner for the April 11 debut YAMMA Pit Fighting show, has pulled out of his main-event bout with Oleg Taktarov (15-5-2) and has been replaced by former UFC fighter Patrick Smith (14-13), the organization announced late last week.

However, just hours after the announcement, KXII TV 12 in Sherman, Texas, reported that Smith had been arrested after a high-speed police chase. Smith was clocked at speeds of up 130 mph while fleeing on his sports motorcyle, police said. He's been charged with felony attempting to elude, possession of a prescription drug without a valid prescription, and reckless driving.

The Smith-Oleg fight is currently slated to headline YAMMA's pay-per-view event, which takes place at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, N.J.

Frye had to pull out of the event due to a shoulder injury. MMAjunkie first learned of the injury earlier this month, but Frye said he would try to fight through the pain. Unfortunately, he was eventually forced to undergo surgery to repair the shoulder.

Frye will attend the event and provide commentary during the broadcast. Officials expect him to return to the organization.

"We look forward to Don competing in YAMMA Pit Fighting in the future," said Bob Meyrowitz of Rope Partners, the event's promotional company,

In addition to the possible Smith vs. Oleg headline bout, the event features a "Masters Superfight" between Eric "Butterbean" Esch (10-5-1) and Gary "Big Daddy" Goodridge (23-15-1), as well as an eight-man heavyweight tournament featuring fighters such as Travis Wiuff, Sherman Pendergarst and Kevin Jordan.

Smith, who competed in the first two UFC events, has competed professionally in kickboxing and MMA for more than two decades. He last competed at an October 2007 Oklahoma KO show and posted a second-round TKO victory. The 43-year-old has won five of his past six fights.

Ricco and Mo Smith In Yamma Debut???

Several alterations have been made to YAMMA Pit Fighting's debut card on April 11 at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ.

Two unnamed fighters originally slated for YAMMA's eight-man single-night heavyweight tournament have been scratched from the card for unspecified reasons. However, when contacted by ProElite, Nick Lembo, the legal counsel for the New Jersey Athletic Control Board, indicated that YAMMA has submitted the names of two potential replacements.

According to Lembo, YAMMA has submitted the names of former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez and Red Devil Sport Club member Alexey Oleinik as tournament replacements. Lembo indicated that the NJACB has approved both fighters to be involved.

It is uncertain whether Oleinik and Rodriguez have been signed by YAMMA to compete in the tournament. Attempts by ProElite.com to receive comment from Rodriguez's manager and a representative for YAMMA were unsuccessful before this article went to press.

Lembo also indicated that Maurice Smith's name has been submitted as a replacement opponent in a superfight against UFC 6 winner Oleg Taktarov. Taktarov had originally been scheduled to face Don Frye, but Frye pulled out of the fight for unspecified reasons.

UFC I veteran Pat Smith had been announced as a replacement for Frye but his involvement is now in question after Texas TV station KXII TV 12 reported that Smith had been arrested following his alleged involvement in a high speed police chase.

According to Lembo, the NJACB has approved the involvement of the 46-year old Smith. Smith, a former UFC heavyweight champion, last fought and won on a Strikeforce show in Tacoma, Wash. on February when he submitted American kickboxing standout Rick Roufus with an armbar at 1:53 of round 1.

It has not been confirmed whether Smith has signed for the show.

Mo Smith Out-Pat Smith In

More alterations have been made to YAMMA Pit Fighting’s debut card on April 11 at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ.

FiveOuncesOfPain has confirmed with Nick Lembo, legal counsel for the New Jersey Athletic Control Board, that Maurice Smith has pulled out of the YAMMA Pit Fighting event due to illness. Maurice Smith was tapped as a replacement for Pat Smith after Smith’s legal troubles this past weekend.

We have also confirmed with Lembo that Pat Smith’s charges have been reduced to misdemeanors. Lembo also confirmed that his name was resubmitted to the NJACB for approval and that he has been approved to fight Oleg Taktarov at the event on April 11th.
