Monson fighting Randleman, Imes, Buentello AND Rodriguez

Jeff Monson is a busy man. Anyway, he talks about all those fight he has lined up. He also talks about all the major heavyweight players...Couture, Emelianenko, Nogueira, Sylvia, Kimbo Slice, Brock Lesnar and more...

http://www.fighthype.com/pages/content2267.html

On his next FOUR fights...

"The ones Iíve signed for are Ricco Rodriguez, Kevin Randleman June 21st, Iím fighting Brad Imes May 17th and Iím fighting Paul Buentello May 31st. I have a couple lined up."

"Well, theyíre all so different. Brad Imes is this tall and lanky guy and Iíve had problems with that before. Randleman is obviously a great wrestler and then I have to face a complete stand-up guy in Buentello. I will definitely have to train differently for each one and theyíre all pretty close so itís going to be difficult. I donít think either one is necessarily tougher than the other. I just think they all have completely different styles."

On Fedor being the #1 heavyweight...

"No, I think he is. Heís never really lost. Itís just because he hasnít been as active and you know, when people say he hasnít been active, thatís not completely true. He just won another Sambo championship and I know thatís not MMA, but I think itís one of those out of sight, out of mind kind of things, but it doesnít mean you are still not the best, you know? Heís beat everybody and I know a lot of people want to see him fight Randy, but if you look at the records and history, heís the best."

On Sylvia and Nogueira...

"I saw it and I think Tim showed he was a tough guy. He was obviously winning the fight; cruising really, but Nogueira has been in a million wars man and he just knows how to win and heís got great submissions. He and Barnett are probably the 2 best submission fighters out there. He proved it when he caught Tim in something and heís a tough guy to knock out. I donít think heís ever been knocked out. He always catches you and heís a tough guy. It was 2 tough guys going at it and everybody witnessed that. Tim should get his props too. I know everybody is always down on him for not being this or that, but I think heís an exciting fighter. He does what he can to win the fight and he just fought a tough guy that day."

On Slice and Lesnar...

"To be honest, Kimbo Slice, at this point, is like a semi-pro. He hasnít fought anybody. Heís fought a couple of underground fights and basically promoted himself and good for him, you know? Heís making money. Heís made more money than Iíve ever made in it and hasnít fought anybody so good for him. I just think I donít want to say legitimate fighter, but I think Iíll just say semi-pro. I think Brock Lesnar is going to be a tough guy. I donít think people realize how tough it is to be a dominant wrestler and his last couple of years of college, he was dominant and nobody could touch him at a real high level. I think you have to forget about the WWF stuff. Heís a big tough guy and I think itís going to be a matter of how tough he wants to be. If he trains real hard and gets his ground game good, he has the physical attributes that he needs to be on top of the game. He just needs to get the technique stuff down and heíll be real tough."

He talks a lot more about those guys and a bunch of other stuff in the full interview:

I actually like how he talks about Fedor and etc...I agree with him on everything but Slice vs. Lesnar would be a nice fight IMO, hope he can beat Imes, Buentello, and Rodriguez but I am going for Randleman when they fight

Yeah, the guy is a warrior. Shame he has yet to develop any sort of stand up to go along with his awesome grappling abilities...

Monson is a beast and Im excited to here he is gonna get active again, and I hope he makes it back to the UFC, I'd love to see Nog/Monson as I think they are the two best sumission guys in the heavyweight division. Monson's stand up isnt that bad IMO, its just that he is stubborn and likes to stand instead of doing what he does best, he needs to learn to control were the fight goes, once he does that he will be a top 5 heavyweight easy, I just wonder if it isnt to late in the game for him to figure it out.

@ Manx

I don't think his boxing is actually that bad, its just a shame he's small, he's actually 2-0 in pro boxing lol. Albeit to not so good guys.

I love Jeff i think he's great. Hope he wins these fights, it's a tough challenge.

Yeah, you are right, I was talking out of my ass. I should have thought more before posting that he has never developed any stand up.
He has improved quite a bit from when he first started. I just remebered his recent fight with Rizzo and he did look good there. His jab is short, but strong. I don't think he is very technical, but he seems to be landing shots with more power than previously. Hopefully he'll continue to work on his defense...

Monson's allright, I agree with Aaronyman that he is very overrated. He seems like he is always in a bad mood but I like to hear what he has to say. He will have another chance to prove himself if all of these fights actually happen, all of those guys are tough.
