Gina Carano vs. Kaitlin Young EliteXC fight booked for CBS Saturday Night Fights

Quote:
The most recognizable female mixed martial arts fighter in the world, undefeated Muay Thai specialist Gina Carano, will compete against Kaitlin Young (4-1) during the EliteXC show debut of “Saturday Night Fights” on CBS this May 31, according to MMAWeekly.com.

Before losing her most recent match to Sara Schneider via submission (armbar) last month, Young dominated an eight-woman tournament put on by BoDog Fights in November 2007. She won all three fights in the same night all with T(KO) stoppages inside of the first minute of the fights.

Young boasts a strong stand up game and will get the chance to test her skills against a top female striker in the sport.

Carano is already known in the network TV world as American Gladiator “Crush,” making her place on the first ever network MMA show inevitable. She has done a lot to help put female mixed martial arts on the map. In fact, She was a part of the first sanctioned female MMA fight in Nevada, beating Rosy Sexton of England via technical knockout in the second round that night.

“Conviction” has since reeled off three more wins all under the EliteXC banner.

Carano is a Muay Thai champion and knows her way around the cage. She’s not scared to hit or be hit. She’s also fun to watch and should provide some excitement when she locks pigtails with Young at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J..

It’s a nice addition to an already stacked card that includes Kimbo Slice, Robbie Lawler, Scott Smith, Ninja Rua, Phil Baroni and others.

Should be a showcase fight for Carano. While Young is no slouch, though she is just barely a top 50 fighter, she will probably have big problems if she can't take Carano down. I hope that Carano starts stepping up in competition in her next fights...
