Gomi To Defend Against Aurelio At Bushido

MMA WEEKLY - Your #1 Source for Daily MMA News, Interviews, Multimedia, and More

At a recent press conference, DSE announced four new fights for the upcoming PRIDE Bushido 13 show. Defending lightweight champion Takanori Gomi has been confirmed to fight American Top Team’s Marcus Aurelio, ending much speculation.

Takanori Gomi previously fought Marcus Aurelio at PRIDE Bushido 10 in a non-title fight. In one of the biggest upsets of the year, the lightweight champion tasted his first defeat in a PRIDE ring when he was choked out by Aurelio. This time, the lightweight title will be on the line as fans await their anticipated rematch.

Current Shooto middleweight champion Shinya Aoki will arguably face his toughest opponent yet when he meets Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez. Both fighters recently made impressive debuts at PRIDE Bushido 12.

Luiz “Buscape” Firmino makes his return to PRIDE after more a year’s absence from competition. The Brazilian Top Team fighter will face current DEEP lightweight champion Nobuhiro Obiya. Obiya made his debut at the last Bushido event and showed a lot of heart in defeat to Gilbert Melendez.

Also announced, former UFC champion Murilo Bustamante makes his return after being eliminated in the first round of the welterweight Grand Prix. He will face Korean Judoka Yoon Dong Sik, who will finally make his 185-pound debut.

In another interesting match-up, fan favorite Ikuhisa Minowa will take on All Japan Pro Wrestler Mike Barton. Barton is better known as “Bart Gunn” when he fought in the WWE years back

Nobuhiro Obiya (Japan) vs Luiz Firmino (Brazil)

Ikuhisa Minowa (Japan) vs Mike Burton (USA)

Gomi lost in their first fight because he:
1) Was bored and didn't have the extreme drive to win since he already had his hands on a belt.
2) Wasn't fighting to defend his belt.

But now that Gomi feels ashamed of not having that same fire he did when he first came into PRIDE, he will seek revenge.
And now that his belt is on the line...

The result will be like Gomi vs Azeredo I.
