well, there is absolutely no violence in mma. why you ask? because violence is when someone doing harm to the other person without the permission of that other person. so if two guys steps in to the cage/ring/whatever to fight each other, they know that other guy will probably hurt them but they agree for that. that's way there is no violence.
of course there are things like blood, broken noses, bruises and other, but the same are in medicine on the surgery table while students are watching operations and learning how to save lifes.
should we ban that too then?

anyone know what is that bloody fight on one of the pictures? i mean who are they and which event is that from

When I'm showing someone who has never watched MMA before a fight with ground fighting, their first reaction is "it looks like they're having sex" or "lol they're 69'ing" and it really does piss me off they only see that and close their mind off from it, preventing themselves from actually appreciating it. I find a good grappling war to be the most entertaining aspect of MMA, especially being a grappler myself.

I'm not sure what picture your talking about but it might be that Babalu David Heath fight. It was an undercard fight at UFC 74.

Kamikaze is now 5-0. Watch his most recent fight here.

Seriously what the hell.
Actually I was watching an MMA show the other day and the moronic commentary pissed me off. I'm starting to get more into the amateur shows: the Military channel's MMA show (T.O.P. Army fighter), HDNet's Ring of Combat, and the aforementioned (and recently upsetting) BET's Iron Ring. The Iron Ring, is a bunch of black celebrities (Nelly, Ludacris, Floyd Mayweather) that get to pick out their own "fight teams" to compete. Despite having to listen to ridiculous commentary, trash talking, and hear about how some fighters have "street cred"... the fights are decent. But between Mayweather's claim that he could destroy Shonie Carter (that's right Shonie's in it) and the boxing trainers lack of knowledge about MMA's grappling/clinch work/takedowns... I couldn't stand it. Anyway, watching such a terrible show ... i read this article and realized the show alluded to the same 6 reasons for why people hate MMA (it's like having a boxing show with people that hate boxing). and i'm rambling...

The bloody fight:
Yeah that's the fight that Babalu got kicked outta the UFC for. I personally didn't think it was that big of a deal since it was just a blood choke, but it was pretty brutal.

I find it funny actually when people say the fighters are just hugging or laying on top of one another. How about we have Kazushi Sakuraba "lay" on you for five minutes and lets see how your feeling. hahahaha

When I talk to people about MMA who aren't into it, there objection really isn't about the violence, They seem to equate it to Pro Wrestling. I will explain the biggest difference is that MMA is actually real, but they still don't get it. I reserve 90% of my MMA discussion to this site and a few friends who are also into it. It is fun when you meet someone who is really into it and knowledgable, sometimes people you wouldn't expect are huge fans but they don't talk about it for the reasons stated in this thread, once they realize that I am just as big of a fan then that's all they want to talk about.

Good article, repped

Good article despite being difficuolt to fully relate to from personal experience.

Mainly as if anything I get stick from people for liking Pro-Wrestling rather than MMA. Which leads to "UFC's better as it's real". God knows it's impossible to like both.

But yeah, the ignorance factor there is certainly the main thing I'd say.

All Time Favourites:
Josh Barnett
Tito Ortiz
Kazuyuki Fujita
Bas Rutten
Randy Couture
