BJ Penn vs. Gesias Calvancante?
Penn vs. Calvancante:
Which is the better Lightweight? I really want to see what people have to say because I have the impression that BJ is the best. I watched JZ fight, and was impressed, but I haven't seen him fight any HUGE names like Gomi or Pulver...
I just posted on a thread on which is the best lightweight, and the majority of the posts were:
1.Penn
2.JZ
3.Gomi
Well, Penn beat Gomi, so the top 2 LW are obviously Penn and JZ...which one would come out on top?

IMO it's BJ Penn, not taking anything away from JZ or Gomi, but i think Penn would beat both of them, he already beat Gomi and I think in a rematch, the outcome would be similar.
Penn has fought up in weight and not only fought bigger guys, but he fought bigger guys with skills, Renzo Gracie, Rodrigo Gracie, Matt Hughes, he lost to Machida, but he did well and LYOTO is a 205er. He did very well against GSP also, I think in a rematch I would pick Penn to win.
BJ is an excellent striker and his BJJ is second to none, I like JZ, but I definetly wouldn't bet against Penn if they fought.

Its weird I was thinking about that fight this morning. I would say BJ but he is my favorite fighter so I am kind of biased but I was thinking about the fight really subjectively and I just think BJ is a slightly better fighter in all positions but I think he could really control the grappling as he always does. It would be a great fight for the hardcore fans though. JZ is awesome not taking anything away I just dont see him beating BJ if BJ is in shape etc..

Well, obviously it looked good against Joe Daddy, I dont see how you can even argue it. The thing about BJ is he has his fights with bad cardio and his fights with good cardio so you never really know what you are going to get. With someone like Clay Guida you know one thing: His cardio will be great. If he loses it will not be because he gasses. With BJ you know one thing: He will be the technically superior fighter and if he loses it will probably be his cardio. He seems focused right now though and I would say his cardio will be fine for the Sherk fight because he really wants to beat Sherk since they dont get along.

"I would like to say Gomi cos hes my fave but due to inactivity.........it has to be JZ. He's the LW who has done the most impressive things recently.
Stop saying BJ you damn TUF n00bs! Beating JoeDaddy does not the no. 1 LW make.
AndyHI, I think you might have missed the Stevenson fight. Seriously, am I the only guy who realises his cardio looked like shit in that fight? The guys lungs amost collapsed. Maybe ye were too busy looking at his abs....."

I am quite confused by that post. His cardio looked fine seriously. He pushed the pace on the ground big time and won the standup

I'm sorry, that was posted by: TheNegation.
I was so perplexed by that statement, I didn't know what to say to him without dropping the Fbombs...
