Pete Spratt discusses GSP, Starnes and more

Pete Spratt discusses his next fight, Kalib Starnes, GSP and more

On the current state of MMA...

"Coming up, we all hoped to get to this point. I knew it would, but I didnít think I would be around to reap the benefits with the explosion of MMA. Iím still at the point where Iím going to be able to reap some of the benefits and Iím excited that there are so many different promotions out there and guys are able to fight on a national level. Itís a good thing. As a fighter, it gives us guys a lot of different avenues to compete with all of these organizations coming up and whatís better than good old fashioned competition? It gives us ways to make money and not just depend on just one promotion. We have options out there and the only thing we need now is a fighters union to make sure that we donít get robbed and screwed around by different promotions."

On Kalib Starnes...

"Nah man, that was crazy. I couldnít believe it, but from what I heard, he broke his foot in the 1st round I believe. If he broke his foot, he sure did do a good job of running if his foot was broke. He finished the fight and did what he had to do to finish the fight, but at the same time, it was disappointing for the fans, but I guess in hindsight, he did what he had to do to survive."

On GSP's win over Serra...

"Yeah, I checked it out man. He looked good man. He really pushed his gameplan and had Serra guessing on whether or not he wanted to stand or go to the ground or whatever the case may be and he had Serra confused. It was a good showing for GSP; very good showing."

On his fight this Saturday...

"They can expect what they always expect from me, a fight that's going to get finished or be finished. Iím going to try my best to do my thing to finish this guy and Iím sure heís going to do the same to me. Itís going to be an exciting thing for the fans in the area man. They need to come out there and check it out because not only is my fight an exciting fight, but the whole card, from top to bottom, is a good card. You have some UFC vets on there, Aaron Riley, Carlos Condit, who has the WEC title, and Marcelo Brito, a great up and comer, so itís a lot of exciting fights on the card."

On his future plans...

"Quite honestly, I would like to finish up my career where it kind of took off and thatís with the UFC. Iím looking at Iím 37 now and I only have a few years left, but that depends on how my body feels. If I still feel like I feel now when Iím 42, Iíll still be fighting. Right now, Iíd like to get back in and get in the top 10 in the world at welterweight and fight for a title, whether it is in the UFC or wherever, but ultimately I would like to end my career in the UFC."

As much as I'd like to see Pete back in the UFC, I doubt it'll happen. Maybe he'll get on another UFN card, but I don't see him making a run for the belt or even taking on any top competition. His weakness is still his ground game and without any sight of developing versatility in that area I just don't see it happening.

Thanks to NikosCC for the sick sig!
