The Middleweight division in the world of Mixed Martial Arts has been under harsh scrutiny as of late, especially in the UFC. But all this negativity could be coming to an end sooner than we think. As fans and critics citing lack of talent and excitement may begin to come around as promotions take steps to revamp and resurrect the division. I’d like to take the time and analyse major promotions current middleweight fighters, as well as get into upcoming events that can (and most likely will) greatly alter the highly criticized division of 185 pound fighters.................

The Middleweight division is slowly starting to become one of my favourites. As I love me some good ole submission specialists, dudes like Maia, Almeida, and Jacare are really pulling my interest back into the weight class.

There seems to be so many exciting match-ups that can be made in the future, and last year it really didn't seem that way at all with Anderson destroying everyone.

I'm most looking forward to Almeida/Cote (big Almeida fan here), Hendo/Franklin (rumoured to be happening next), and I want to see Jacare take Dream's MW GP.

What are you guys thinking about the division nowadays?

Surprisingly it's looking rather good these days.

Jacare is really turning into a great all-around fighter, and the UFC is slowly rebuilding it's roster. It's sad that we "lost" a great prospect in the MW Division in Kang losing, but we gained a huge one in Mousasi.

Very true.

I am really disappointed with Kang, he is one of my favourites and he put himself right into that submission. It is true though, Mousasi has become a big prospect with that win.

Hopefully Kang competes on a upcoming Dream card soon, just not in the GP sadly.

Yoshihiro Akiyama is the next big thing in the MW division.

Agreed, I see it becoming extremely popular. Especially after TUF. It just needs a few fresh fighters.

The middleweight division only looks so poor because of Anderson Silva. Take Silva out and it looks the same as any other division. It's just because mw has a champion who no one can see being beaten by anyone. He destroys all the top guys without ever seeming to be in trouble, and he does it in a scary way. If any division had such a dominant champion, people would say the same thing.

I actually think divisions get rather diluted after TUF.

From the past perhaps but I saw some decent fighters in those preliminary bouts when they were fighting there way onto the show. Some looked like they had a lot of potential. If they had somebody to help guide them into honing their skills they could become top contenders eventually.
