Can Cung Le Beat Renzo Gracie?

Cung Le will have to eventually defend his EliteXC title to Renzo.

Renzo's standup is not a skill that he utilizes when he fights.

And of course Cung Le does not fight on the ground. So will he be able to handle Gracies BJJ?

Cung does have a good TDD. Can he keep Renzo at bay with his San-Shao fighting skills?

If Cung keeps it on the feet he will win. If Renzo gets it to the ground Cung will get tapped.

My guess is that Renzo wins.

I think as long as Cung Le uses his range to get in a few solid leg kicks, he'll win. I think that'll take the wind out of Renzo's sails. It's hard to trip someone when you can only stand on one leg.

Once Renzo's feeling the swelling building up in his thighs, I think Cung has this fight.

I really personally hate the way that Gracie fights. I can always appreciate some good Jiu-jitsu but Renzo is not active on the ground.

It always looks like he doesn't even go for a finish. Appearing more so as if he's looking to equilize his opponents activity and is comfortable to lay on top and squeek out a victory in a side mount.

With that said, his take downs are always fluent, and I see him dry humping a victory out of Cung. And holding the belt until he encounters a real BJJ fighter. Or even a fast striker that'll KO him when he shoots.

I don't think you're going to find a much faster striker than Cung Le. Maybe if Denis Kang or Akiyama came over (I don't know if the EliteXC is as exclusive with their fighter's contracts as the UFC) then he might face someone a little more well-rounded with solid stand-up... but out of the EliteXC, Cung is top dog.

If Renzo would learn to GnP in conjunction with his sub attempts, he'd be a lot more dangerous. But we just haven't seen that out of him. I personally think Renzo should have retired, but maybe the fight with Cung is just the catalyst to push him in that direction.

Cung Le has good wrestling and I doubt Renzo could get him down. I have never been impressed with Renzo as a fighter.

Renzo catches kicks, and sweeps. I can see him working Le on the mat.

did they announce this fight or something because I missed it. If it does go down I can see cung le taking it. Renzo and his brother were my fav gracies. I dont see him beating cung le though most of the time when renzo has caught kicks it as been because most people in mma dont recoil their kicks. Cung le recoils them faster then he throws them which is the way it should be.

I can see him possibly taking cung down but I dont see him submitting him. I think Cung will take this one

No, this fight has not been announced. But the math is there..........

Renzo Gracie wins against Frank Shamrock around Oct.
Frank Shamrock Wins MW title.
Frank Shamrock loses title to Cung Le.
Who is the next in line for the shot? Maybe the other guy who won against Frank 6 months prior.
EliteXC/Strikeforce.....
Who is above Renzo on the MW ladder for the shot??

If he tries to catch Cung Le's kicks he's gonna be in for a world of pain.
