When Discussing Legends...

...Why do people forget to include Jose Pele Landi-Jons?

Pele's one of those guys who has beaten his share of great fighters, and he was one of the first guys to use the Chute Box, muay thai style in an MMA setting. Not only that, but he knew how to grapple, which made him one of the first complete fighters.

Even in losing, he had some really good fights against Newton and Matsui. He was always game, and I liked that about him. He fought way past his expiration date, but that doesn't diminish his legendary status, at all.

So yeah, Pele needs more love. Dude's an MMA legend.

Discuss.

Love his fight with Newton, even though he lost, dude was all crazy in that one.

I think Legend would be a stretch, since I consider guys like Sakuraba, Randy Couture etc. in the category. Probably not fair, but Pele never had a big name in mma but always entertaining.

I watched Going Platinum today, and man, I forgot how fun Pele vs Miletich was. Pele laid on such a beating. I bet Anderson watched this fight before facing Franklin the first time, because Pele wore Miletich down with some nasty knee's. It's like Pele was thinking about how Miletich's UFC fights tortured me, and decided to pay him back with knee's.

Fair enough and good call. Which begs the question, why the UFC or any other mma org hasn't gone to BraZZZZZILLL.

When you brought up Pele I couldn't but help think of his first fight with Macaco when Pele is sprawled out and humping Macaco's head.

Man those guys hated each other and they made sure the other knew it, which made the fight even that much better. That fight was legendary.

Pele making fun o his opponent's stance was also a good one. Yeah, that fight ruled.

Pele KO'd Matt Hughes as well. It's like, he punished him in advance for becoming such a jerk later on

Funny to see this one here. I just watched Pele's fight with Liddell from IVC just the other day. Pele took a ton of punishment in that fight, but Chuck couldn't finish him.

But yeah, Pele is pretty underrated. You have to give him credit for still fighting solid guys, and still being competitive against those guys. How many other fighters who went pro back in 1993(!!!!) are still doing that?

I've never seen any of his fights. Could someone post up a few links to some of his better ones.
