A few points about Kimbo Slice vs. James Thompson

1. This fight elevated Thompson more than Slice, in my opinion.
While the Colussus' striking didn't look so good, he was the stronger and more skilled fighter in the cage during the main event. He was easily ahead on the scorecard, well on his way to a decision.
I wouldn't have been surprised at a stoppage late in the second, since Kimbo was doing nothing to answer those elbows.
Thompson was badly gassed toward the end. With some cardio, he could have won this one easily.

2. Slice has a long way left to go.
A fighter with a little better top control, and some cardio, like I said, would have decimated him.
His striking, apparently his strong suit, was sloppy and lacked power. How many times did he hit James with flush shots? Thompson has dropped from punches like those before.

3. Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith deserved that spot.
I don't know what the EliteXC promoters were afraid of. Everyone and their brother knew this fight had potential to be fireworks, and it was. Lawler and Smith, for and faults, bring the goods when they fight. This was a title match, and deserved to lead the MMA charge into primetime more than any other fight on that card.

4. If Shaw and his boys make Rogers vs. Kimbo, Slice is going to take his first loss. Slice is classy and unique-looking, which is all good, but a guy with some decent striking ability and KO power is going to smash him.

Rodgers should fight Kimbo next. And I also think he'll beat him.

Going to be totally balanced and honest with my assment for them both.

Thompson has been around for awhile and is really a haymaker type of fighter much like Kimbo. Back in his Pride days with his gong and rush type approach to fighting it yielded him about 50/50 win/loss ratio. To me this shows him as being more of a suprise fighter less than technical or skilled. With that being said from a matchup standpoint he was a good stepping stone opponent for Kimbo, 50% win record, bigger opponent (height, weight, reach) predictable type of fighter.

On the other end of the spectrum you have Kimbo. Pretty much the guy is very intimadating, but when it comes down to technical fighting ability he has very little. He use sheer strength and haymaker type of bombs to land to have any real chance at winning. He has been improving his skills slightly with working with the legend Bas Rutten, but there is still like Kimbo said "a long way to go". With Kimbo he showed some of his lack of mma skill when whe went to his back. Now if he were fighting a well rounded heavy weight (no offense Thompson) Kimbo would have been mounted about 10 times in that fight, choked out, or had an arm broken in a kimura.

In conclussion all the fights were on a short rope last night being in my home state of NJ due the states history with mma fighting, its back again and they dont want to lose it so there too careful at times pulling the stoppage trigger a tad bit early as we saw last night. For Kimbo this was a learning experience as to what it really takes to fight at an mma level, and to be honest he doesn't look ready yet to fight any real or legitamate fighters, but with the entire elitexc org backing him there going to hand pick oponents that they think he can beat to help carry the hype which is good for business but bad for the sport.

Agree with everything you said. Did you see when Kimbo flipped Thompson over when Thompson had Kimbo in side control? Who lets someone do that to them? Get some top control...

Well, Thompson has never been touted as having a great ground game.
